Ten is kind of a random number but I wanted to do a CD for someone and so I need about an hours worth of suggestions. So any suggestions as favourites much appreciated.

I can't beleive this isn't a repeat thread, so if it is, my apologies, and please point me that way, thanks.

off the top of my head, i'd say every good mogwai CD needs:

helicon 1 (for distilled perfection)
fear satan (preferably the "mogwai remix" from kicking a dead pig)
stanley kubrick (or something from that EP, for the sheer brass-band genius of it)
2 rights (although the version on the album doesn't do justice to how monumental it now sounds live. there's a version on their website from ATP 2004, but even that doesn't quite capture how majestic it can be)
hunted by a freak (for freakiness)
ratts of the capital (for genius)
golden porsche or secret pint (for balance)
my father my king (for ROCK)

that was an x-post and i didn't really read gerry's when it came up first ... helicon 2 over helicon 1?!

Yeah that's bad craziness.
I Know You Are But What Am I is surely the highlight of Happy Songs.
Far too many others for me to pick right now...

I wanted something light and plinky. Don't give me your bold face when you ignored the live noisy as fuck masterpiece that is Summer.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Summer
Helicon 1
BMX
X-Cow
CODY

Sine Wave
2 Rights
Christmas Steps
Jesus
Take Me Somewhere Nice

D to E, pretty easily found B-side, is pretty essential I think.

ignored the live noisy as fuck masterpiece that is Summer

and "like herod". i ignored that too :(

"helicon 1" was my first mogwai experience, you see. after what felt like a lifetime of turgid britpop jism in the late-mid-1990s, suddenly i heard this ... this explosion of beauty. without wishing to sound like an utter cock more of a cock than usual my usual self too much, it represented a glorious new dawn.

:)

OK, this is what I went for in the end.

Helicon 1
Summer
A Cheery Wave From Stranded Youngsters
Mogwai Fear Satan
Christmas Steps
Burn Girl Prom Queen
Close Encounters
2 Rights Make 1 Wrong
I Know You Are But What Am I?
2 Rights Make 1 Wrong (live at ATP 2004)

1 hour 18 minutes of gloriousnessness.
Thanks for the suggestions.

OK, did you see what I did there?
Put 2 Rights on twice - i mean it's good and everything but...
So...I've changed it and taken the non-live one out and replaced it with Kappa and Stanley Kubrick.

OK then. Incidentally Mogwai fans, have any of you seen the film Comsequences of Love which features an excellent soundtrack including Moses I Amn't and Tracy?
