The theme for "Sorry"...need I say more?

and Steptoe & Son.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

Damn I should have put a question mark on the end of the question - that' just the sort of sloppy editing I'm sure Ronnie wouldn't have approved off.

Steptoe and Son tune is excellent but composed by Ron Grainer.

"approved of." obviously. damn.

I've just read that his theme to "Some Mothers Do Have 'Em" incorporated the morse code for "some mothers do have 'em" - the man was a genius. And all for a £30 fee.

The theme to "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" is clearly to be cherished; plus indeed the occasional and masterly incidental music: appearing usually in Perrin's methodical routines to work (or later, in his dispiriting travels under various assumed identities).

Tom May (Tom May), Thursday, 24 November 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

"Ground floor perfumery stationary and leather goods wigs and haberdashery kitchenware and food going up"

everything, Thursday, 24 November 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, I was totally serious about that 'Sorry' comment. But sadly, it would appear there is no love for Ronnie Hazlehurst.

Not even the classy, totally right for the programme, theme to 'Yes, Minister'?

Sigh.

Ans another thing - you're not the Tom May who used to live in Leamington Spa are you?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Saturday, 26 November 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

Not just the morse for "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em", but even the full stop at the end! (see http://ben.oxhut.co.uk/ronnie/morse.html for a full transcription)

Wow!

...and of *course* there is love for Ronnie - my Ronnie site (http://ben.oxhut.co.uk/ronnie) gets at least 25 visits every day...not a massive amount, I grant you, but enough to show that there are at least *some* quirky-Ronnie-lovers out there

Ben Daglish, Tuesday, 29 November 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

>>and Steptoe & Son.

Ron Grainer, surely?

And let's not forget this....

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

Oh man...

I was initially so goddam glad to see the title of this thread, all of a sudden - never suspect a thread on him even existed - only to see the sad news in the end.

I've always loved those wondrous variations he charmed outta the "Last of the Summer Wine" theme.
Don't think I've heard anything else by him.

t**t, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

Oh man, the Perrin theme was great

That mong guy that's shit, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 10:15 (eighteen years ago)

His tunes often made me smile considerably more than the programmes they were attached to.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

I love those tracks he did with Nancy Sinatra. RIP cowboy.

NickB, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:14 (eighteen years ago)
