Songs You Sing in the Shower

I was practicing my Jonathan Donahue impression with "Dark Is Rising" yesterday, though I usually reserve my shower-singing for songs by French/Quebec artists with hoarsy voices (Gerry Boulet, Patrick Bruel, Dan Bigras).

"I'm Every Woman"

Brock K, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm such a nerd when it comes to these things. Songs I've sung in the shower have included:
- The first baritone solo from the Brahms "Requiem"
- "Wohin?" and "Am Feiertage" by Schumann
- "This Is Hardcore" by Pulp
- basslines from four Bach motets: "Singet Dem Herrn", "Der Geist Hilft", "Jesu, Meine Freude", "Komm, Jesu, Komm"
- The quartet baritone line from "Miserere Mei" by Allegri
- "Stray Cat Strut" by The Stray Cats
- "Out Of This World" by The Cure
- "Darling Nikki" by Prince
- "Lonely Souls" by UNKLE (featuring Richard Ashcroft)
- Assorted songs from _Get Ready_, especially "Crystal", "60 MPH", "Vicious Streak", "Slow Jam", and "Rock The Shack"
- "Dominion/Mother Russia" - Sisters Of Mercy
- this one song on _Dots And Loops_
- "Da Dip" by Freak Nasty
My wife alternates between selections from "Carmen" and whatever's on the radio (Shakira, Britney, Leann Rimes, J-Lo, Mary J. Blige, usw).

I demand that Dan make available a "shower-songs" mix CD.

"Touch Me," by LA's The Doors. I think I sing it better than their vocalist, Jim Morrison. Have you heard them?

Andy, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'll be singing "When My Baby Smiles at Me I Go to Rio" tomorrow morning. I haven't been able to get it out of my head all day. Thanks, Anthony & Geoff.

I always find myself belting out the "Zane Zane Zane Ouevre Le Chien" part of Bowie's "All the Madmen" in the bathtub, for some reason..

Arthur, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I always play Rooty when I'm in the shower in the evening before I go out.

Dancing in the shower is an unappreciated glory. But yeah I sing too.

Ronan, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This morning I was singing ShelleyDevoto's "Can You See Me Shining?", which is an extremely weird thing to be singing anywhere, let alone the shower.

hi. I'm new - please berate me in the following space:

...cheers. Anyway. All those hard surfaces and running water make for some kick-ass echo. Best shower-songs are therefore those 60s r+b/ Spector-group numbers with the backing singers and tight tight harmonies. Recommended: the Ronettes' 'be my baby', the Zombies' 'she's not there' or 'time of the season' and the Beach Boys' 'don't worry baby'.

What about songs for bus stops?

petra jane, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nonsense. Just post to the 'Introduce Yourself' thread and all is well. :-)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I never sing in the shower. Nor have I ever posted in the Introduce Yourself thread. This is 1)because I can't sing and b)because I am so mysterious, like, just like God, who moves to Mysterious Girl by Peter Andre.

emil.y, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I practise my Morrissey Voice.

Oliver Palmer, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Boots Randolph - Yakety Sax

A Nairn, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I often find myself singing Britney or Madonna in a silly David Gahan voice. Just yesterday I did the most melodramatically awful rendition of "Live To Tell" ever.

EdwardO, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, that would be fun to hear in real life. From David if not you, assuming you don't want anyone to actually hear your version. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I say someone should get in touch with his people. It could be a winner - especially if he himself records it in a shower with some lovely fake synth strings.

EdwardO, Wednesday, 27 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i growl bob dylan

anthony, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Any song that histrionic vocals in it.

helenfordsdale, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Singing In The Shower by Les Rita Mitsouko and Sparks. Ok, I don't really sing it but I thought it deserved a mention.

Daniel, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have also been known to attempt Morrissey vocals, sometimes "Heroes" in German, and most often Radiohead songs like Climbing Up The Walls.

Damian, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I compose my own art songs for the shower. My eternal classics include "My Wife is a Frog", "Hey, I'm Gettin' Clean", "(We're All Out of) Shower Gel", "Eek! She's Turned on the Washing Machine!", "Love Me, I'm Wet", and "My Wife Doesn't Love Me Anymore".

Colin Meeder, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

colin's songs sound absolutely CLASS.

this morning i sang Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Should'nt Have Fallen In Love With)(or whatever the title is) by the Buzzcocks. i might only have sung it in my head, though.

rener, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Poops McGee, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hahaha there is this one song from the Cabbage Patch Kids movie that someone played for me a year ago and has been stuck in my head ever since. It is the fabbest song ever: some sort of villain has Raymi and Sibyl Sadie trapped in a goldmine, so they sing a really stirring sort of Tammy Wynette number about how much they'd like to get back to the Cabbage Patch. I can hardly get wet without singing this song at some point.

N`itsu`h, Thursday, 28 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Gramme friday" by the Fall, "The morning of our lives" by Jonathan Richman and "This is a low" by Blur.

"I want me fags"

Bathtime music includes "Waterfall" by Stone roses, "If you want me to stay" by Sly and the family stone, "Silver lady" by David soul and "Dancin in the city" by marshall Hain.

The echo is nice and as long as no one oins me I can go on for hours.

Good question! "All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down)" and "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?" For like the last 20 years.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Saturday, 2 June 2007 00:48 (eighteen years ago)

That high part in "A New Name" by !!!.

To me it sounds perfect. Spot-on.

bassace, Saturday, 2 June 2007 06:57 (eighteen years ago)

I've posted this somewhere recently, but it's been stuck in my head for a decade every time I shower:

"Don't like chicks with weaves talking 'bout, "I need conditioner"
That shit's deader than niggas with a morticianer
A gymnazah, up in your flesh like plasma
Take away your last breath when you got asthma
Then meet Bad Lieut down at the plaza"

kingkongvsgodzilla, Saturday, 2 June 2007 07:09 (eighteen years ago)

Rickey hearts Bocephus, as do I <3
for me it's whatever crappy song is stuck in my head right now, like "Golden Skans" or some song that's exactly a minute long so I can time my relaxer/conditioner process

Morley Timmons, Saturday, 2 June 2007 23:30 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

So I was scatting along with Robert Wyatt's rock bottom album the other day... probably missing every note but I had the right righteous rhumba going on and boy it was a hoot.
What songs have you caught yourself singing along to in the shower.
I'm probably the only guy who has an ipod stereo in his bathroom.
