Have you seen Iggy's girlfriend of recent years?

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Saturday, 26 November 2005 04:24 (twenty years ago)

yeah, she's got gigantic boobs. and she's about 7 times taller than Iggy. they look quite freaky together. weird little acid-damaged iggy and his giant 22-year-old porn queen. it's cute. and, yeah, she's black if that's what you're referring to. i wouldn't put much stock in that interview, he's so obviously trying to be bad and shocking, talking about eating his toenails and shit.

metallic o.k., Saturday, 26 November 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

Some of my best girlfriends are black people.

iggy pop, Saturday, 26 November 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

Haha, I remember that quote from Ego Trip's Big Book of Racism. They joked that another remark he made later about white girls being boring for not having butts kind of balanced it out.

disco violence (disco violence), Saturday, 26 November 2005 06:27 (twenty years ago)

Mojo recently had a pic of Iggy from the 70s looking at a black girl in a porno mag. NOT RACIST!

Cunga (Cunga), Saturday, 26 November 2005 06:48 (twenty years ago)

When I went to Tower Records for the Stooges in-store, the post-performance signing was surreal, and right out of A CHRISTMAS STORY.
We waited on a staircase to be let into the area with Iggy, Ron, and Scott waiting to have a one-on-one audience with you, for like 30 seconds. Then you got ushered by Iggy's giantess ladyfriend down the back staircase. It was exactly like Santa, and when Peter Billingsley got dropped down the chute.

Tia Carrera is not black.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 26 November 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

In that photo she looks maybe an inch taller than him. Is that not the girlfriend under discussion.

Also, 'b-but his current girlfriend is black' is not terribly different from the some of my best friends defence. Not that I have any great interest in defences of throwaway idiocies in interviews over thirty years ago anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 26 November 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

Man I bet Iggy totally spends a lot of time on PS2. I bet he kills at Katamari Damacy.

That point was made yesterday.

Not that I have any great interest in defences of throwaway idiocies in interviews over thirty years ago anyway.

You may be on the wrong thread then.

GARGLEBY (dr g), Saturday, 26 November 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

Um...

--He doesn't say he doesn't like black people in that interview.

--His girlfriend circa-Skull Ring was/is black. But their dog was WHITE. WHITE, I tell you!

--His music... music, being, you know, what he does...seems to suggest he likes black folks music, don't it?

Hmm... The Stooges and Coco Rosie on a double-bill?

He used to throw the word "yid" around indiscriminately too, for those keeping score at home.

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 28 November 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

OK people you are missing the point. The real question is, why does Iggy Pop look like Nickelback?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 28 November 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

he likes black musicians.

IGGY DOES JAZZ
Iggy Pop has said that he's recorded a jazz LP inspired by Michel Houellebecq's novel 'La Possibilité D'une Ile'.

In a video interview posted on Iggypop.org, he said of the album, which is called 'Preliminaires': "It's a quieter album with some jazz overtones. That's because at one point I just got sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars, banging out crappy music. And I was starting to listen to a lot of New Orleans-era Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton type of jazz".

Yellow Carded (titchyschneiderMk2), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 11:37 (seventeen years ago)

I've heard it and it's maybe the most atrocious record of his whole carreer.

Snowballing, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 12:13 (seventeen years ago)

In what way is it "inspired" by Possibility of an Island?

Roque Santa Gold (Matt DC), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 12:42 (seventeen years ago)

Houellebecq does not seem like a good inspirational choice

mh, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

Well, maybe for nu metal

mh, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

Iggy's been hypeman for Motown and Light In The Attic recently.

As for the article linked way above, it's painful to read. Iggy was pretty much at his lowest point in '74. Not a defense of his words, just context.

System Jr. (Mackro Mackro), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 16:39 (seventeen years ago)

maybe the reason for this record now, is Ron Ashton's death,
now that the stooges are gone for good

Zeno, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 16:43 (seventeen years ago)
