Distorted Pony: Classic or Dud?

So I'm listening to Instant Winner right now, for the first time in years, and damned if it doesn't sound great. Maybe the best pigf*ck that I can think of; it's barely aged. And I love the sound of the drums - I think they're mic'd louder than the vocals. Particularly that piece of metal which is either a permanently closed hi-hat or a random piece of scrap metal. Hard to tell.

Don't really know much of anything else about them. Anyone else have any thoughts? I really wish I'd seen them back in the day ...

Was that the band with London "I Was in Samhain" May?

Vaguely remember them. Couldn't tell you anything about them, mind.

dunno; the CD has no band information on it, strangely enough.

I know distorted pony. One of the greatest bands around. Instant winner is pretty good, especially "a fine view from the temple", but Punishment Room is better; the songs are more consistently good. I don't know how a band with that unique of a sound and such clear, concise, communicative lyrics could've faded away. great band. Goodnight.

who knows if anyone's still checking this thread but here goes...

i remember d.p. i was a founding member.

anyway, doug, that is in fact a piece of metal you're hearing. if i remember right, it was a gas tank that we found god knows where. pussy galore used one, too, prompting people to compare us to them, which i alwayst thought was way off.

anyway, it's nice to hear such kind words said about a band which felt somewhat under-appreciated at the time.

take care,

david u.

p.s. you might be interested in my current band, switchhitter. go to www.switchhitter.org or framed! records, which is framed!.com, i believe.

Hurrah for David! We need more people stopping by like this (we've had a few, I want more). Thanks!

Better Late than never I guess...
Just found this thread today..
I once had a tape with Distorted POny, it was not an original tape so I don't know ANYTHING about this band exept they really rock.
Some of the best noise-rock tunes I have ever heard.
BTW i think the tape was a copy of "Instant winner"
