Jane Siberry has put up an online music store that allows you to set whatever price you'd like to pay for her music (even zero, with a try-before-you-buy option).

doesn't she know that the best artists charge $1000 per album?

It's worth noting that JS is a little loony, and reportedly has sold all her worldly belongings to live in a one room apt.

ahhh, aren't we all...

I wrote to them to ask for the source code. Seems like an awesome idea, especially for less-well-known artists. Also, if someone downloads an album on some p2p service, this gives them a tip-jar-type way to pay the artist.

yep - great idea. i might just get those early albums now.

the early albums are my favorites, no borders here & speckless sky are the two I tell friends to start with, then move forward

And it's also the time of year to break out the live Christmas album, which is wonderful.

I've been listening to 'The Walking' lately; a wonderfully dense album. also, the 2nd edition cover of No Borders Here is one of my very favourites.

I have an odd story that involves me discussing my drinking auras with Jane Siberry, clad in a bra and towel.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 07:30 (twenty years ago)

That's Jane in a bra and a towel. Not me.
Just clarifying.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

That explains why it doesn't look like you.

from the EFF "article":

This is so blindingly, obviously right on so many levels, it demonstrates how far the "authorized music services" like iTunes Music Store and eMusic have yet to come.

Crazy Xian fanatic-type much?

Her msg board is full of people claiming to pay MORE than the suggest price. YEAH RIGHT.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

tho I gotta say, a dude came up to me once and said "I downloaded your entire catalogue, here's a hundred dollars" which was awesome

I repeat: a dude came up to me once
