Celebration, I'm listening to their debut album on 4AD that's gonna come out next year. I hear some potential, some Arcade Fire styled madness, some TV On The Radio harmonics/electronics. Just a duo this band...

what do you think?

their debut album is already out, in the us. has been for a few months.

four months pass...
can't tell if I like this record or find it very boring

all the individual elements are pretty good, especially the organ, but for some reason it doesn't linger in my mind when it's done

one year passes...

their 2007 album "modern tribe" is very good.(and much better than the debut).
sounds like TVOR with soul and african music influences and organs.great drummer too.
downside: lack of sense of humor.
like it.

I like them and this new album. But their previous band Love Life made one of the best and most necessary Birthday Party derivatives ever.

it's kinda weird how much higher their profile seems to be outside of Baltimore, it took me forever to even hear them, and most stuff like this thread and the Pitchfork review don't even mention where they're from. picked up the new album recently, still kinda growing on me.

ive been reading about them in this "arthur" magazine, in an interview ian svenonius (the make up) made with them.he loves them.
"moderen tribe" is good, esp. the organ and the awesome drummer, but it tends to repeat itself ,and the quality level isnt equal.

Seriously... have you guys heard that last Love Life album on Jagjaguwar?

Nate Carson, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

4AD is still going?

Love Life: just checked it out again. Liked it when it came out and was on my station's playlist. I think I like it better than Celebration. I struggle with Celebration. I like the idea of the band, and large part of the sounds, but yeah, it just doesn't stick.

My favorite B Party derivative of the last few years is Veronica Lipgloss and the Evil Eyes. Now there's a band that got the joyfully sleazy libertine thang down.

"have you guys heard that last Love Life album "

yeah, it's ok.somewhere in between "come" (thalia zedek band) to the more quiet parts of "jesus lizard."
it doesnt have the complexity nor the originality of the birthday party, but it's quite good anyway.
