Death Cab, "I Will Follow..." Time sig?

Alright, so I actually don't care for any Death Cab, and likewise this dull song,
but my sister asked me to aid her on the guitar while sings at a coffee house event next week.

I am no guitar vituoso, but usually I'm pretty adept at rhythm patterns, as I studied flute/music theory a few years ago.

However, somehow I am not getting the simple rhythm pattern of this song.
It sounds like he's singing too fast. Is Gibbard just singing too fast? Or is this in a 5/4 time sig? Triple meter..?

I Will Follow You In The Dark - Death Cab

So, I'm hoping maybe one of you more musically informed patrons will know what is going on here? In terms of time signature, I guess.
Guitar is not my strong point, thank you much.

I love figuring out time sigs. I'll check it out later.

Okay thanks, except...I think I'm just mentally incapacitated because I just heard it, and it's probably just 4/4.

It sounded so strange though when I was trying to play it? Anyway...yeah, thanks though.

I can't hear this as anything other than 4/4, with the 1 of each measure getting the accent.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Mm, the accents. Yeah, just 4/4, simple a pie now. I think Gibbard and I just disagree with each other.

Yep, four as four gets.

I know, J., weren't you hoping it was something crazy?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

Yes. :(

If it makes you feel better, "Someday You Will Be Loved" and "Stable Song" is 3/4. "Different Names For the Same Thing" is 3/4 in the first part, and 6/8 (I think, I don't KNOW) in the second.

"... and 6/8 (I think, I don't KNOW) in the second."

Divide 6/8 by 2 and tell me what you get...

Yeah, but it's not entirely accurate to say it's the same time sig. I'm listening right now, and the second half of the song is felt in 6 rather than in 3 -- with the major accent on the 1 and a smaller one on the 5.

Is Ben Gibbard the worst lyricist ever?

The only Death Cab songs that have really made me cringe are the anti-Los Angeles "Why You'd Want to Live Here" and the fuck-you-Dad one on the same album.

nah - I always liked "fumbling to make contact/in the back of my grey subcompact."

It's a thin line between clever and stupid.
