its hard to imagine any of the three doing anything other than sing for a rock band.

Oh, I thought you meant hypothetical solo careers; Bono's solo output would have been laughable. Morrison's, I'm afraid, already is anyway.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

could you imagine any of them at 'real' jobs?

JD from CDepot, Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:36 (twenty years ago)

Being a musician is a real job.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:38 (twenty years ago)

"musician"

like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

I can easily see Morrissey as a theater director, Bono as a night trader, and Morrison as a Venice Beach panhandler.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

"Singers ain't musicians"

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

i can see bono working the reservations desk at a failing, undeservedly snooty restaurant.

"Singers ain't musicians"

good singers are. the only good singer in the thread title is teh mozzer.

like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:41 (twenty years ago)

I've never heard Jim Morrison referred to as "the mozzer" before.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:44 (twenty years ago)

And Bono can sing.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and Morrissey ... I've never thought about how I feel about his capacity as a singer before.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:50 (twenty years ago)

Morrisson: "a godlike singer" (Mark Prindle)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:51 (twenty years ago)

Make that "Morrison" plz (as in JIM).

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:51 (twenty years ago)

And Bono can sing.

that must be why apple chose that tuneless live clip to advertise their ipod, then.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:54 (twenty years ago)

Bono can emote, but he can't sing. Moz can sing, but he can't emote. Jim can be a baritone, but who gives a flip.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 05:57 (twenty years ago)

all three of them are poets who have enriched many lives thru song

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 06:18 (twenty years ago)

Who the fuck are you, Hilburn?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

true, James.

gear (gear), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

true

gear (gear), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 06:21 (twenty years ago)

Definitely Morrison. I envision something on the order of a failed, washed-up suicide cult leader who couldn't actually recruit anybody, works in a college cafeteria, and scares people away with his acid damaged ramblings.

Morrissey would probably work in some fancy department store or salon and be fairly happy and successful.

Bono would be a successful centrist politician, of course.

sleeve (sleeve), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

I thought he already was.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 06:32 (twenty years ago)

Bono would be a youth pastor constantly steering kids in the right direction.

Cunga (Cunga), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 06:46 (twenty years ago)

Given his identikit Lizard King look in some recent The Cult video I saw, I'd venture that Ian Astbury has become Jim Morrison full-time, thus freeing up the original Mr. Morrison to return to his occupation as worm food and graveside graffiti magnet.

Morrissey's proven his uselessness sans the Smiths on a few watery occasions, but he's made some damn good solo records too, I think.

myke, Wednesday, 30 November 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

My youth pastor loved Bono.

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Morrissey might make a good librarian, and I think he once said he would have been a librarian if he hadn't become a pop star. He was born in a library, after all. I mean, according to him. Still the usefulness of a librarian is highly suspect.

owen moorhead (i heart daniel miller), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

They could appear in a remake of Father Ted with Morrissy as Father Ted, Jim Morrison as Father Jack and Bono as Father Dougal, with Dolores Cranberry as Mrs Doyle.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

If Morrissey hadn't become a singer, he'd be Michel, the desk clerk on Gilmore Girls.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

"Morrissey's proven his uselessness sans the Smiths on a few watery occasions, but he's made some damn good solo records too, I think."

oh, absolutely. I was thinking more how these three are useless without music, in general.

JD from CDepot, Wednesday, 30 November 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

I think Morrisson. He woulda just been some washed out druggie hippie burnout, and prolly would have died the same way, sans the fame.

Morrissey would prolly work at a used book store or something.

Bono seems like he would have been successful in just about anything. He's like a "winner", or something.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

xpost Maybe they can get Morrissey to come on the show and do a staredown with Michel. That'd be awesome.

Eppy (Eppy), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Bono would be a youth pastor constantly steering kids in the right direction.

Down his pants?

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

He's like a "winner", or something.

The best Beavis & Butthead video comment ever!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

Still the usefulness of a librarian is highly suspect.
-- owen moorhead (owen_...), November 30th, 2005.

...until you need to find something at the library. They're like air, you don't miss 'em til they're not there.

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

I vote for Morrison. Morrisey's rather bright + literate. Bono's proved, for better or ill, that he's comfortable in other settings besides playing music with a band.

Morrison was an accident waiting to happen. Crap poet, too. But who knows, maybe if The Doors flopped he would've become a respectable surf shop owner.

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Of those three, the one I'd be least interested as a solo performer would definitely be Bono.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 30 November 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Morrissey can't emote? Isn't that half of his whole thing?

Also, I think Morrison would be most useless.

I can see Bono as a floor manager at a telemarketing firm, pulling people aside trying to reach them and teach them.
