This is where I tell the story about how I was in love with Amii Stewart when I was about seven and used to stare at her picture on that album cover for practically minutes at a time.

Um, that's the story.

This is where I tell the story about how my friend once saw Ray Charles do "Knock on Wood". As he was introducing the song, he said, "Aren't those Raylettes somethin'? When I hear them sing so pretty like that, it makes me wanna go home and knock on wood."

It may be only simple nostalgia that compells me to choose Amii over Eddie (never heard Ray's version), but so be it. Love those drums - like fists pounding on a corrugated tin shack.

Yep, those drums do it for me too, one more vote for Amii.

I third the love for the drums on Amii Stewarts version, but overall i'll take the Otis Redding version; it makes most other versions seem soooo slllllooooowwwww...

Like the Bowie version, too.

I too love Amii's version (and the video). The original is the best, though, pretty much definitive Stax in every way and probably the Stax track I'd play for a Martian who wanted an idea of the idiom.

Man, gimme Ike&Tina circa Black Man's Soul. That's a fuckin' killer version.
