On a related note, I have a video of my 1 year old daughter leaping frantically in a bouncey seat to The Misfits' "I Turned Into A Martian". These are the moments that make parenthood special.
Can a nine-year-old be a 'jock'? I had no idea :( -- DJ Mencap (lackofinteres...), December 1st, 2005.
I already know my 4 year old son is a jock. If it involves a ball, he's there. He can make baskets in regulation hoops. My wife and I are athletic idiots, and find this behavior mystifying.
When he was 3 he used to like the first Stooges and Unrest's Perfect Teeth, but now he's more of a Lion King fan. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

He has a portable Mp3 player and I do not (his grandfather on his Mom's side got it for him)! While he has grown up my my cassettes, records, and cds as well as online stuff, he has told me of kids who have no cds, only single song downloaded mp3s.

As a coach of my son's baseball team, and assistant coach of his basketball team, I know. There are kids who look like they have never thrown a ball (and probably have not--parents always working, no siblings, no one encouraging them to do so). But there's little of that baggage that come high school gets tied in with being a jock.

My wispy 14 year old, an introspective kind mole, is now asking me if I fancy some Decemberists.
― Mackro Mackro, Thursday, 17 July 2008 20:44 (sixteen years ago)
actually this is a good idea. my eldest needs to learn 'bout the good stuff. time to give him a ramones cd to see if that makes him understand why he's learning the electric guitar.
(shown little real interest in music yet other than his godawful hoosiers/mika cds .. but i am very aware that he rebels against anything i suggest (as is correct) so i have sat back and waited for a band/style to 'wake' him up like 2-tone did for me, but fuck it, the kid needs a serious nudge in the right direction)

My 8 year old step son was pounding the room to Bad Brains 'live at CBGBs dvd.Diving off the suite and generally throwing stuff around and getting all giddy. It threw me.It was ace and a real step forward in our relationship.
I was watching Bad Brains in secret, not wanting to put them all through the din- like it was a porno- when he came in the room. I fully expected him to pull a face and leave. He's used to Robbie Williams and that kind of crap his mum subjects him to in the car and so on..
He still asks for Bad Brains dvd but told me that his dad had never heard of them. Another cringer. His son is in safe hands.

My 12-year-old son, still a total jock, is now completely addicted to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. He used to be so much cooler.

In case you were wondering, that is:
Joey Ramone Action Figure$16.99From his earliest performances at CBGB to his untimely death in 2001, no musician personified punk rock like this unforgettable front man. This spring, NECA presents Joey in all his glory with the Joey Ramone Action Figure. Featuring his trademark leather jacket, sunglasses, and I'M NOT JOEY RAMONE t-shirt. Joey also comes with a microphone stand.

Just found this thread while looking for something else..
Alice is 12 now, still quite proud of her rock chick background and the pics above without wanting them anywhere else...
She's started writing her own songs now, using my Gretsch Country Club while I wasn't looking but hey...
