Albums you explain away with: "my wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/partner bought it"

You know that moment when you nervously explain away why that Neil Diamond disk is on the coffee table. Let's hear some highlights.

The Billy Joel thread reminded me of this, so: "The Stranger" is my submission. I'm proud of the Neil Diamond.

I'm sure this has been asked in other ways; apologies for that.

Spin Doctors' "Turn it Upside Down ..." Oh wait, I bought that one. Damn. ;-)

Bloc Party, and just about every other band* played on The OC.

*This is very close to including Interpol. Not quite yet, but if Carlos D does one more solo DJ gig out here to score easy pussy, I'm putting them on this list.

Oops- there he is- next week in Hollywood. Add Interpol.

I like Sufjan Stevens ok, but whenever he comes up, I always hear myself saying "my wife is the real fan" or something like that.

Ha! My father is always bringing up that my mother MADE him buy the Sheryl Crow CD.
(Granted, my mom is the one whose tastes tend to be more transitory in that relationship...)
Luckily for me, my girlfriend has awesome taste. Probably better than mine (even if she doesn't like anything on the hard rock to metal side of the spectrum).

i only had this problem early on in my last realtionship. a near complete ryan adams discography being the key offender. shes moved on now and like you js, she probably has better taste then me. of course i still havent traded in my copy of dmb - crash. so i guess i shouldnt talk.

My ex bought me Tony Braxton's "Secrets" as a present when we first started dating. He really didn't know me very well!
In good faith I did try to listen to it, but other than "You're Making Me High" it was a complete snoozefest of overdramatic syrupy ballads.

xxpost between me and my wife we got 3 copies of Sheryl Crow's first album for some reason. Savage Garden is probably her only album I'll disavow as a point of honor.

Paul Weller's solo material, especially the totally sucky and bereft" Studio 150" which he has actually played in the presence of our child....that nicey-nice grocery store music makes me violent.

I've had a hard time answering for Saint Etienne to roomates and such who have overheard. Why can't they understand? Oh yes, and then there's the Sarah Records stuff. Don't even try to explain those sad gems to those with whom you attend hockey games.

'Unbreak My Heart' is a snoozefest? Maybe you need to hear the Il Divo version to fully appreciate its greatness.

Death Cab For Cutie, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, etc.

I don't hate that stuff, but I probably wouldn't buy it either.

DO you mean literally?

In which case, one Lighthouse family CD and one Eurythmics album. Everything else I accept with equality.

You know that moment when you nervously explain away why that Neil Diamond disk is on the coffee table.

Why would you be nervous about owning a Neil Diamond album?

Smoosh; second Fiona Apple; Basement Jaxx (depends on who's asking, I have a lot of dance/house-hater-friends that I must impress)
