k/l (Ken L), Sunday, 4 December 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Another one that basically fits the bill, but could be disqualified on a technicality:
"You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" - The Beatles

k/l (Ken L), Sunday, 4 December 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

"Pretty Suzanne"- The Monks

k/l (Ken L), Sunday, 4 December 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

Daft Punk - "Robot Rock"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 4 December 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

"Sex Bomb" definitely has other words = baby, yeah.

"I Feel Love" by Donna Summer, maybe? Not "Love to Love You Baby," though.

And "Tequila"? "Wipe Out"?

xhuxk, Sunday, 4 December 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

"I Feel Love" does have other lyrics, although perhaps not many.

Daft Punk's "Around the World" springs to mind.

The Fall's "Extricate".

sleeve (sleeve), Sunday, 4 December 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

The only song I know that really doesn't have any other words is 'There is no love between us anymore' by the inestimable Pop Will Eat Itself.

Oh, and 'Sex and Violence' by The Exploited would also qualify if it could be classed as a song...

Niall, Sunday, 4 December 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Lotsa funk tracks like this:

Soul Finger, Hollywood Swinging, etc.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Sunday, 4 December 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Actually, come to think of it, "Hollywood Swinging" also has 'hey hey hey, what you got to say?' so it's disqualified.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Sunday, 4 December 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

The Bucketheads - "The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)"

R. J. Greene, Monday, 5 December 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

Stevie Ray Vaughan, "Soul to Soul"

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 5 December 2005 05:24 (twenty years ago)

The Bucketheads - "The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)"

Yeah, that's a technicality. Whatever.

Disqualified since those aren't even the correct lyrics.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Monday, 5 December 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

I somehow don't think they would put the incorrect lyrics to the song in the title.

Another....

Outkast "Hold On, Be Strong"

R. J. Greene, Monday, 5 December 2005 06:13 (twenty years ago)

Aside from some "yeah yeahs":

Blur "We've Got A File On You"

Ben (crispyben), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

I somehow don't think they would put the incorrect lyrics to the song in the title.

The lyric is sampled from Chicago's "Street Player." It goes, "Street sounds swirling through my mind."

one time gaffled 'em up (one time gaffled 'em up), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

Hideous Lump (Hideous Lump), Thursday, 7 September 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

half the goddamned Fall catalog... "LA", "Chicago Now", etc

My favorite version of "This Is Not A Love Song" is the utterly simpleminded version on _Live in Tokyo_ where Lydon gets the Japanese crowd to sing along. The refrain is so actively annoying that Hongro is forgiven for forgetting there actually were other lyrics to the song. I don't know whether it's ironic or just sad and dumb that Lydon pulled together a crew of studio ringers and dragged them around the planet just so he could hear some PiL songs recorded digitally.

I haven't heard it in about a decade, but "Sexy Boy" by Air comes immediately to mind. If there are other lyrics, I sure as hell can't remember them now.

Oh, sure, but a fair few of them have not much more.

I'm calling out the ones where there are loads of words actually, but people often sing only the title and think that's all there is.

e.g. "That's not my name"

Mark G, Thursday, 18 September 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

The Webb Brothers' wonderful "All the Cocaine in the World" has only one other line: "...won't bring back the girl." So for our purposes it should count.

Same is true for that record's title track, "Marooned" which only has "...for days."

Great songs, both.
