RFI Mofungo - El Salvador is it on CD anywhere?

Not on CD legally at any rate. Someone should put out a CD of the early Mofungo stuff, though I say that knowing the later ones sold about 11 copies.

Yeah one of the later ones is on Amazon for 1c. I should buy it if only to bump the number up to 12.

Were they a precursor of a decent selling more recent band that might provide a marketing angle? From what I can tell they came out of the no wavish scene (not that that is very easy to generalise about), so I'm thinking that there must be some acts over the years that could count them as influences. I feel someone should make this group famous after the fact so I can hear this song...

The guys in Mofungo were in about a million other bands that came after the better known "no wave" bands - too late to take part in it, but way to early for any sort of revival. Mofungo had a great sense of humor too, and I suspect they were too jokey for some people, too artistically oddball for those who didn't mind a healthy dollop of humor. "El Salvador," to me, ranks as their great memorable tune, but they were pretty great all around. I think they also suffered from being "political" (in the Rough Trade sense) at a time when that was pretty uncool - I remember Sonic Youth lambasting groups who espoused political ideologies around the same time when Mofungo were really happening, for instance.

it's basically pork fat + garlic, fried - i believe
