Dance Conspiracy!

After long and careful consideration (3 hrs at work, listening fairly obsessively), I have concluded that Dance Conspiracy's track "Dub War" is the greatest 'ardkore track ever. And one of the most subtle, no less. That sequence from roughly 2:35-3:00 is particularly exhilerating, as the whole track drops out, and this deep crawling dubline comes in, followed by supah-intense synth stabs & the two feel v. at varience, and then it all piles with the vocal samples and WHAM at 4:00 or so it cuts out again to return to the orig. theme, with this orchestra swirling deep in the background and the drums slam, slam, slam through in front, while the sax line gets cut into a stutter which syncopates it into jazz territory and damn...

Does anything else of the period match up for density of meaning/texture?

well, the sax sample was the one public enemy also used wasn't it although i cannot remember offhand where that originally came from.

you could try The House Crew - Euphoria (Nino's Dream) (that link goes to an ilm thread)

Jonny L's Hurt You So is certainly worth investigating. another anthem, but quite a strange one. although Jonny L now has a reputation as quite a harsh producer d'n'b, his early rave tracks betray a mdma saccharinity which i love. hurt you so oscillates between pre hardcore lil' louis type four four, and vibed out manix style post hardcore/pre jungle (similar to euphoria in this) but was released bang in the middle of the 92 hardcore explosion. you must check this track out

some of the manix stuff as well (always better than their releases as 4 hero i think)

Dub War was defo one of my faves too - I also rate:

Zero B - 'Lock Up' Shut Up & Dance 'The Green Man' DMS - 'Exterminate' (Daleks chant is segued with Derrick May's 'Strings Of Life' - NICE!) House Crew - The Theme

Incidentally he sax sample from Dance Conspiracy was lifted from Wreckxn' Effect's 'Rump Shaker' track - altho that itself probably came from an old 70s angry jazz track for all i know ;)

Good call on the Manix -- that's another one which comes close for me.
