What do you guys think of the new Supersilent album? I'm having more trouble getting into it, than I remember having for Supersilent 6.

nico van der watt, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 03:54 (nineteen years ago)

didn't realize it was out. i felt that 6 was the most accessible (probably why it's harder for you to get into 7), but also the one i listened to the least.

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 04:12 (nineteen years ago)

oh, awesome! comes with a dvd w/concert footage. i saw them last year in SF, but sorta showed up late and missed part of it. was an amazing show

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 04:13 (nineteen years ago)

Wow didn't know it was out, "6" was one of my fave discs of '03.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 04:15 (nineteen years ago)

i have zero problems with it...they continue to kick my ass....
i guess, if anything, i was excited to hear how they pull it off in a live setting...

bobby.lasers, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 04:29 (nineteen years ago)

all of their recordings are live. 7 is heavier than 5 and 6, it's closer in sound to their first four records, and it most definitely kicks ass.

Doesn't "get" Supersilent

jena....good call, and strangely enough, I guess I never really put too much thought into it...with deathprod on the boards, i guess I just assumed there was some level of studio trickery that wasn't happening in a live setting...more confusing is how many sounds these 3 are able to create at any given time...

bobby.lasers, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

All four are playing - Deathprod's not the engineer, he's also generating noises and playing synths.

I just ordered this from a site in Britain. Apparently it's PAL and it doesn't play on Region 1 DVD players (I'm in America), but it might work on my laptop? It was worth the $40 to me to find out.

save the robot (save the robot), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

oh....hmm...i was always under the impression helge/deathprod was the "producer/member"...as in: he's a vital member of the group, but was sculpting from behind the scenes, rather than actually generating sound...

of course, i haven't seen the video as I am waiting for the Japanese non-PAL version :)
just heard the magic....

bobby.lasers, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

booby, how does one get about getting the japanese non-pal version? i played a norvegian movie on my laptop recently and it switched the region, but also gave me a warning that i will be able to do that twice more. i wonder what happens to my dvd drive after that.

Jena (JenaP), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

there's plenty of DVD players out there that can be easily hacked to play any region discs. I do believe that most APEX and Phillips players also handle PAL conversion as well.

Avi (Avi), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

Can't wait til this comes out on regular DVD? Will it be released on a regular DVD? 4 is my fav

Rssgnld's, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

from supersilence.net:
"supersilent dvd "7" (ntsc version) will be out in japan from bomba records. the package is so-called replica mini gatefold lp cd format. the scheduled release date is 21.12.2005, more info follows."

That's all i'm going on...i haven't ordered it; i don't think it's available yet...

after a certain amount of region changes (if we are talking about a mac), the drive will be STUCK in that region, and will only play that region. there are firmware hacks out there, and if you completely toast your dvd player, well, apple won't fix it...woops.

bobby.lasers, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

all of their recordings are live.

not so sure about this statement. i believe that "5" was put together from tape of live performances. i think that "1-3","4" & "6" are all studio recordings.

drone/a/saur (william), Thursday, 8 December 2005 06:31 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, but I think they were live studio recordings :)

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 8 December 2005 08:44 (nineteen years ago)

they recently reissued 1-3 and those discs blow me away, can't believe it's improvised on the spot. I've heard snippets of 7 but you gotta watch the black and white dvd with it to feel the whole experience, the chemistry etc, or so i've been told

awesome band, another level

rizzx, Thursday, 8 December 2005 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

They're definitely all live, whether recorded in studio or elsewhere. I saw them when they last played London a couple of years ago. I'm seeing them tonight - they're playing along with others (Terje Rypdal, Marie Boine et al) in a concert celebrating 100 years of Norwegian independence. Can't wait. 7 is a blinder (me review's here: http://www.eleventhvolume.com/reviews/cds/files/supersilent_7.html).

i'm jealous.

bobby.lasers, Thursday, 8 December 2005 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

Worst time ever to release an album, btw.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 9 December 2005 00:34 (nineteen years ago)

it came out September 7th...
is that a bad time?

bobby.lasers, Friday, 9 December 2005 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

Aquarius hadn't even heard about it. is it not getting an american release? I emailed the label, but they're out of the office until the end of the week.

jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 9 December 2005 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

An NTSC version will be released through Forced Exposure in early February.

NICE!

Dr. Gene Scott (shinybeast), Friday, 9 December 2005 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

I thought the release date was December 21, Bobby.

I guess this will have to wait for my 2006 listening list.

It's out in the States - any reactions?

save the robot (save the robot), Friday, 17 March 2006 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

It's fucking great. Is it available as a CD? All I have is the DVD.

just got this. is there anyway to save the audio on to my computer and burn it to a cd?

forrest Sturgis (fffnnnsss), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

I really enjoyed 6. This is only on DVD then? Guess I'll have to get it.

For letting you change Region Codes as much as you want on a laptop get DVD Genie, it works for loads of softward DVD players like WinDVD and Power DVD. Get it at:

For ripping the audio tracks you can do that with "DVD Decrypter" which is available from the same site. It'll rip to MP3 for you I think, handy program.

Maybe someone has alread ripped it and posted it somewhere in the PtwoP world?

Anyway I must go hunt for this DVD.

next double album "8-9" is scheduled to be released sometime in summer 2007.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

Excited by this yes I am. Saw Supersilent at Cargo in London a few months back, they were extremely impressive, and much less serious than I remember from their records, a decent mixture of densely cut up piss take anti-rhythmic jazz, Norwegian Ambient and massive vaguely Krautrocking epic stuff. If they translate that breadth to record it will be pretty impressive. I actually found the concert film thing to be a tad on the boring side, (warmed over Supersilent 6 stuff) esp in comparison to their more recent live material...
