I like it. It sounds like unicorns meets arcade fire meets cocorosie and then some.

ihope (ihope), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for the warning.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

ha. I mean if you don't like unicorns you won't like the album.

ihope (ihope), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

No, not anti-Unicorn. But the cocorosie comparison makes me want to steer clear. I can't think of a more odious band that has come about in the past 5 years.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

ha. Well cocorosie is pretty divisive. They don't have that fakeness as much I guess? But theres the totally out of context rapping...

Stephen Chang (ihope), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

But in all fairness, I will listen. The Unicorns were a very unique band, talented, etc.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Listening to it right now. I'm going to pour rubbing alcohol in my ears afterwards to wash away the all the crap that's being deposited in there.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 10 December 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

gg

Stephen Chang (ihope), Saturday, 10 December 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Could someone post a YSI file please... it would be appreciated.

Tyson Stuart, Thursday, 15 December 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Pretty good, not as good as it ought to be. I worry about the members googling themselves and thus I won't say anything mean.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Thursday, 15 December 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

Good King Crimson record.

drewo (drewo), Thursday, 15 December 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

No need to google, I just e-mail Nick the links!

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Friday, 16 December 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

As I've said elsewhere, no Guthrie on vocals = STUPID STUPID STUPID.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Friday, 16 December 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

Jim wasn't a member of the band when the album was recorded.

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Friday, 16 December 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

Where can you find the album? I have searched all day for it and can't find it anywhere...

S-s-smoke, Friday, 16 December 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

I looked for 3 days and finally got it

Don't share!

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

Fluxblog's posted the song on the album that I really like. But Dan thinks the whole thing's good, and he's the bigger Unicorns fan, so maybe he's right.

I haven't figured out if the reason I like "Swans" is that it cops the riff from my fave Unicorns song... (can you "cop" something if you wrote it in the first place?)

anybody know the website for Equator Records? google and yahoo searches aren't helping at all and they're supposed to be putting out the Islands record in the United States.

good reviews via pitchfork/allmusic made me get this album.
it's pretty good.
the Elephant 6 meets clap yr hands and say arcade fire is well done, and they surely know how to write good melodies.
so why not?

i have things, Friday, 7 April 2006 07:42 (twenty years ago)

i thought it was horrible and couldn't get thru the first 3 songs, so i gave it to maria who likes indie-rock more than me and she gave it back and said she had to turn it off when they started rapping. and she has a really high tolerance for this kinda stuff.

This album is one of the best of the past few years. You need to give it time.

Hey, check out this version of "Rough Gem" (here titled "Ruff Gem") performed by the Unicorns before their demise. Very different but still great! Bass is very funky.
