does anyone here smother there vehicle of choice with their favorite band(s) stickers? any cool bumper sticker designs you've seen from bands?

Kevin Enas, Monday, 26 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have a Macintosh "I Break for 8" bumper sticker.

So to answer your question; 'no.'

JM, Tuesday, 27 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've never in my life seen a band sticker on a car. Maybe it just doesn't happen here. I think it's a cool idea though. If I had a car I would put a "Honk if you're a neurotic indie girl" sticker on it or something.

Late last year, in the window of a maroon mini which was driving down the New Kent Road away from the Elephant, I saw a sticker bearing the legend "Bobby Womack - The Poet Tour 1982".

I wondered how the thing had managed to survive 18 years, how many owners the mini had had since the sticker was stuck there, whether they considered it a blessing or a curse to carry ol' Bobby's name around. The sticker was the nastiest kind of early 1980s graphic design, which was still deeply indebted to gloopy seventies nastiness but which had suddenly become ashamed of itself. I was enormously impressed.

Surely someone must have noticed the hordes of cars (usually Ford Fiestas) with a "Oasis-Knebworth-1996" sticker in the window? Or is that just a Chadwell Heath thing?

DG, Tuesday, 27 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ewww, ewww, ewww! I don't know why, but I have always been almost phobic about them. Even if I saw ones for great bands I would still hate them, but I invariably see ones for:

Bis

Slipknot

Korn

Oasis

And they all look so, so lame. They're almost always on ancient Honda Civics, which is too bad because that was actually a cool little car (until the recent restyling for soccer moms).

Nicole, Tuesday, 27 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The only "band" sticker I've ever seen on a car that is worthwhile and not completely retarded is one that I saw on a junked out Ford Escort in Atlanta that read:

"Don't Blame Me, I Voted For Zappa"

Tim Baier, Tuesday, 27 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have my windshield covered with a gigantic Warrant sticker!!!!!!!!!

Luptune Pitman, Wednesday, 28 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom -- Never been to Cali then, have you? Seems like every fucking HS kid's car has a Pennywise sticker on it.

JM, Wednesday, 28 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

NOFX Forever! RANCID! (related topic not deserving own thread: what about those patches safety pinned onto the backpacks, or the band names written in white out?)

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 28 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I bet that to this day, The Exploited is still the band-name-most-often-written-in-white-out, at least around here. Does anybody actually *listen* to them ?

Patrick, Wednesday, 28 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude... LAG-FUCKING-WAGON MAN!!!!!

I think I'm having a flashback. Hang on...

JM, Wednesday, 28 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Now I feel terribly uncool, for I have several band stickers on my car. No Pennywise or NOFX or Lagwagon or other such punk rawk nonsense, however.

The first thing I did when I bought my car (which has been nicknamed Charming Car, heh) is put a Smiths sticker in the window. I had actually purchased the sticker months prior, but I waited until I had the new car to display it. This sticker was followed by a Joy Division "Unknown Pleasures" sticker, a Sleater-Kinney sticker, a Space Ghost sticker, a Brak sticker (I know, not music, but they're stickers), and most recently, a Weezer sticker. I had a Massive Attack "Mezzanine" sticker with that big ol' bug on it, but it started to peel and then someone pulled it off the car. It left glue marks. I really should clean those up.

I also have a little Death Star on a suction cup on my windshield. My car has decor, folks.

Nanette, Wednesday, 28 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i used to have a fu manchu sticker on my car until it peeled off.

ernest, Thursday, 29 March 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Crystal Ramirez, Sunday, 13 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Some fancy BMW parked blocking my driveway yesterday, and I was this close to putting a bumper sticker on it, execept the bumper-sticker was too cool to waste. Which sticker? One from the Louisville Label "Ghetto Defendant" with the name of the label and a gun. See?

Sterling Clover, Sunday, 13 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

four months pass...
on a slightly related note, i met my current girlfriend based on a band bumper sticker on her car. it's not incredibly often that one sees a PULP sticker in Texas.

ktrey, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

matt's $600 van came chockablock with stickers all up and down the interior woodgrain walls - NRA and AAA, "Bass Fisherman's Club" and the like - but the BESTEST is the Van Halen Diver Down sticker, an abstracted airport-bathroom illus. of two scuba people having oral sex—prompting the inevitable observation that "scuba divers don't come up for air" BOOM BOOM HEYYYYYYY

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Seems like they're all over the place in the States, but the only one I can remember seeing in England read 'Leo Sayer makes me feel like dancing' over a silhouette of his wonderful haircut, and had been supplied by the Leo Sayer fanclub. Beats the southern California Pennywise fixation, no?

daniel, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Last week I saw a big new Escalade with a "Le Tigre" sticker. Surely the modern equivalent to Don Henley's "Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac"?

No opportunity - it's illegal for 13year olds to drive, you know - but I got a Pink Floyd T-shirt in Venice and I wear it every weekend. I've been asked, "Do I listen to them?" and I jkust think no DUH! I wear a T-shirt and I hate them.

Running down the road today, I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac.

Colin Meeder, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wear a T-shirt and I hate them.

...it worked for Johnny Rotten.

Dave225, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I had a Deadhead sticker on my Cadillac. And I hate the Dead.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:08 (twenty years ago)

I put the AC/DC sticker from the Bonfire box set on this sweet-ass '72 Dodge Dart I used to own a number of years ago. Unfortunately, it was apparently not made of the most sterling material, as before long it began to fade and peel and basically disintegrate from exposure to the elements.

i put a smiths sticker on my mom's car in high school, and she totally flipped out.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:09 (twenty years ago)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:12 (twenty years ago)

My bumper bears Drive By Truckers, NRA, and In-N-Out Burger stickers.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Haha, Morris and Roger posting to this thread just reminded me: in addition to the aforementioned AC/DC sticker, I also had a Royal Trux sticker on that Dodge Dart. and that one did NOT fall apart.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:32 (twenty years ago)

I had a homebrew Spacemen 3 sticker on my car for years.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:17 (twenty years ago)

I would put a Devo or Killing Joke sticker on my car....if I had a car.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:18 (twenty years ago)

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 6 August 2004 19:52 (twenty years ago)

I want a motorcycle

Red Panda Sanskrit (ex machina), Friday, 6 August 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Those people whose car's rear end is COVERED in stickers are k-lame. For whatever reason they mostly seem to be punk fans, and all of them seem to have a Black Flag sticker.

oops (Oops), Friday, 6 August 2004 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the completely covering thing is pretty lame. I only had the two.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Friday, 6 August 2004 20:26 (twenty years ago)

And you had a Dodge Dart, which is impossible to make un-cool. (Isn't their full name Dartswinger?)

oops (Oops), Friday, 6 August 2004 20:28 (twenty years ago)

I thought this one was scary when I was a kid. I still do, actually, but it's a different sort of fear.

Nemo (JND), Friday, 6 August 2004 21:04 (twenty years ago)

NOFX Forever! RANCID! (related topic not deserving own thread: what about those patches safety pinned onto the backpacks, or the band names written in white out?)

haha I was thinking how bumper stickers and those patches go hand in hand. EVERYONE MUST KNOW HOW UNIQUE AND ANTI-MAINSTREAM I AM!!!

oops (Oops), Friday, 6 August 2004 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Mine was a Swinger, yes! But I'm pretty sure that not all Darts are Swingers. The Swinger was a subclass, I believe. In the Venn diagram the Swinger would be a little circle inside the larger Dart circle. There were also Dusters, Demons and Barracudas, if I recall correctly. And then of course you had Plymouth's A-body analogue, the Valiant.

Man. Cars were so much cooler in the 70s.
