I'm looking for your opinions on some of the topmost influential songs of the decade 1980-1989. I'm looking for the most influential music from that decade, not necessarily the most popular radio music of the time. I'd be interested in hearing a song or two and your reasoning behind your picks.

"Radio Free Europe" and "This Charming Man" got the jangle thing rolling for the rest of to decade. Even if there were plenty of precursors, those were the singles that seemed to directly inspire the most bands.

Also,

"Star Power" by Sonic Youth. I'd say that was the first noisy, shoegazerish song to cut through US college radio.

Either Camper van Beethoven's "(I Was Born In A) Laundromat" or "Double Chocolate Malted" by Jonathan Richman.
