Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

Most likely I'll be making the trek again

van igloo (van smack), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

After getting burned by Not-The-Cocteau-Twins, it'd take a lot to drag me all the way to Coachella this year...

Myke Weiskopf (Myke Weiskopf), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

Just a reminder:

An influential post-punk band is reforming (for the first time) to tour some time next year!

peepee (peepee), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

Adam & the Ants are reforming? To play Coachella 2006? Awesome!

(Seriously, this game has gone on long enough. Who is it? Soft Boys? Young Marble Giants? Adam & the Ants? I wanna know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

soft boys already reformed once, and judging by the second breakup, they won't reform again.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

howell huser (chaki), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

soft boys already reformed once, and judging by the second breakup, they won't reform again.

Guess I missed that story. I loved their last album.

show me Raincoats and I show goldenvoice my $$$

Aw! I saw them on their '96 tour, it was magic magic magic.

Myke Weiskopf (Myke Weiskopf), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 January 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

An influential post-punk band is reforming (for the first time) to tour some time next year!

So it was the Pumpkins all along!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:01 (twenty years ago)

nothing too exciting. I hope portishead make a stop in SF.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Let's actually wait until there's a confirmed bill.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 January 2006 15:15 (twenty years ago)

An influential post-punk band is reforming (for the first time) to tour some time next year!

They're not listed on any of these mock posters.

peepee (peepee), Friday, 20 January 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Whoever knew Young Marble Giants was going to headline Coachella.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 January 2006 17:32 (twenty years ago)

According to this website, these acts are confirmed:

Depeche Mode
Amadou & Mariam
The Duke Spirit
Paul Oakenfold
Coldcut
The Living Things
Giant Drag
Lady Sovereign
Imogen Heap

kickitcricket (kickitcricket), Friday, 20 January 2006 17:37 (twenty years ago)

I might go this year. My brother lives in Palm Desert so I'd have a place to stay.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 20 January 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Oakenfold is, truly, perfect for Coachella.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 January 2006 17:41 (twenty years ago)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Friday, 20 January 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

BTW, did anyone see the Coachella movie last night at the Orpheum? I'm going to tonight's showing but I was a little unimpressed by the acts apparently featured in the film.

kickitcricket (kickitcricket), Friday, 20 January 2006 18:12 (twenty years ago)

I'm going tonight, too -- let's party to the Polyphonic Spree footage

morris pavilion (samjeff), Friday, 20 January 2006 18:29 (twenty years ago)

the first line-up looks so 90's.
the second one is a dream caused by too much desert sun.

joan vich (joan vich), Friday, 20 January 2006 19:19 (twenty years ago)

i may try to go to this.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 20 January 2006 20:18 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure the second one is meant to be humorous on several levels. However, I thought about it and decided the Sunday one would be the best festival ever.

Jarvis Show, Friday, 20 January 2006 21:29 (twenty years ago)

Man, I thought for a minute there that the line-up poster for Coachella 2006 BeeOK posted was real. Quit playin' games with my heart! ;)

BeeOK (boo radley), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Tool?

Tool?, Tuesday, 31 January 2006 22:06 (twenty years ago)

1st coachella my husband and I zipped around the grassy parking lot on the back of a stolen golf buggy driven by a high frat-ish boy while he chanted Rage and Tool! Rage and Tool! because both played that first year. he actually had stopped and offered us a ride. it's a sweet memory.

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Tool is SO not surprising, you clueless people who will complain. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 23:13 (twenty years ago)

Bloc Party third on the bill = nice. Yeah Yeah Yeahs not headlining = nicer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 23:13 (twenty years ago)

this actually looks better than anticipated. but i still refuse to suffer through this time. i said it before and went back anyway, but i really mean it this year.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 23:45 (twenty years ago)

i remember screaming aloud in a heatpain daze in '04. that was my last but skipping a year has made me nostalgic.

how los amigos invisibles manage to stick around and around i do not know.

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 23:50 (twenty years ago)

I am disappointed by the lack of Smashing Pumpkins.

T/S: Pinks/Oki Dog/Scoobys/Tail o' the Pup (Bent Over at the Arclight), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 00:00 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs not headlining = nicer.

Yeah, since we can split right after YYY's, while others hang around for Tool, and getting out of the parking lot won't be as bad. (Though I know that's not what you meant...)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 00:47 (twenty years ago)

No indeed. (But it's not like I'm going, I'll be in Seattle if all goes as planned.)

The lack of Pumpkins actually makes me happy since I am not fond of the idea of a reunion at all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 00:49 (twenty years ago)

It works out well that I can just go to Day 2 and only miss a few that I would have been interested to see.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 00:55 (twenty years ago)

Tool! forgot they were releasin' a new lp this year

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 00:58 (twenty years ago)

Ya punk. Keep up.

I pretty much figured Tool were going to be a lock for the second day headliner -- new album, SoCal band, previous Coachella vets from 99 (never hurts), hadn't played out in four years. And so it proves.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 01:02 (twenty years ago)

I'll finally get to experience this James Blunt I've heard so much about.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 01:24 (twenty years ago)

2nd day looks worth it. I don't think I've ever heard a Tool song, morris's suggestion will come in handy?

tremendoid (tremendoid), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 03:58 (twenty years ago)

No it won't. But I am bigoted on this point.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 17:01 (twenty years ago)

I wonder what happened with the Strokes -- that seemed like a sure thing. (There's a gaping, L.A.-sized hole in their tour schedule this spring.)

The lineup hasn't actually been posted on the Coachella site yet.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 17:10 (twenty years ago)

the lineup is on the site now, by the way... a few changes from the previous one posted here.

duz (duz), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Sigur Ros replaced by 'Unnamed Good Band.'

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:51 (twenty years ago)

DAFT PUNK!

That LA Guy, Thursday, 2 February 2006 00:25 (twenty years ago)

Looks like they added a few (Daft Punk) before putting up this:

BeeOK (boo radley), Thursday, 2 February 2006 01:41 (twenty years ago)

Well I have no idea why that flyer won't post, well I gave it a try.

BeeOK (boo radley), Thursday, 2 February 2006 01:47 (twenty years ago)

I'd see....Dungen. :-/

Harpal (harpal), Thursday, 2 February 2006 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Massive Attack are now on the bill for the second night.

I just realized way up thread that peepee was pulling that An influential post-punk band is reforming (for the first time) to tour some time next year! hoohah but I see nothing on the bill matching that description, so shit or get off the pot, dude.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 04:17 (twenty years ago)

The line-up is by no means complete, and my source still sounded confident as of a week ago.

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 04:47 (twenty years ago)

There's still time, true.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 04:51 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Madonna has been added to the dance tent.

BeeOK (boo radley), Thursday, 2 March 2006 08:44 (twenty years ago)

four weeks pass...
Want to go to Coachella but can't stand all those awful people? Behold! It only costs $3600 too!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 31 March 2006 17:50 (twenty years ago)

Oh noes, the golf package is already sold out!

Eppy (Eppy), Friday, 31 March 2006 17:52 (twenty years ago)

2 VIP Passes for 2 days to the Coachella Music & Arts Festival (access to the VIP Lounge with bar serving hard alcohol, food service, separate restroom facilities, view of stage)

I like how "view of stage" is thrown in at the end of the list, as if it's some sort of bonus.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Friday, 31 March 2006 17:59 (twenty years ago)

You're not buying this for the music, you're buying it for the business deals and blow.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 31 March 2006 18:00 (twenty years ago)

the VIP area is worth maybe an extra $20 bucks/day. I witnessed no business deals or blow there last year.

i'm from hollywood, Friday, 31 March 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Well that's no fun. Clearly there's a business opportunity here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 31 March 2006 18:05 (twenty years ago)

If the blow is included in the $3600 then maybe it's a bargain after all.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Friday, 31 March 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...

That video somehow sucks everything amazing out of what was the greatest live performance by anyone ever, human or robot. Do not miss it if they go on tour. I'm wondering now if their rumored Electroma project will be a concert film.

i'm from hollywood, Monday, 1 May 2006 19:07 (twenty years ago)

That video somehow sucks everything amazing out of what was the greatest live performance by anyone ever, human or robot.

TRUTH. My shit was utterly and completely lost before their intro music - the motherfucking theme to Close Encounters, for God's sakes - had gotten to the third note.

I do have to admit that I wish they'd played "Digital Love", though.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Monday, 1 May 2006 23:32 (twenty years ago)

My favorite moment of the weekend: Ladytron doing "International Dateline".

My big gripe of the weekend:
Did Massive Attack "deserve" the slot on the Coachella Stage right before Tool (after YYY's)? I wish I could have seen them on the more intimate Outdoor Stage or at least earlier in the evening. By the time they started, I was surrounded by chattering Tool fans who didn't seem to notice a perfomance was going on. I left midway thru the set, missing Elizabeth Fraser doing "Teardrop".

Kudos to the Coachella organizers, or the City of Indio, or whomever for the parking situation this year. In past years, I waited over 2 hours to exit. This year, probably 5 minutes.

kickitcricket (kickitcricket), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 02:46 (twenty years ago)

i'm from hollywood, did you take those daft punk pictures? because they are RAD.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 02:49 (twenty years ago)

Also, I agree that Ladytron were great, especially "International Dateline."

i'm from hollywood, Tuesday, 2 May 2006 04:35 (twenty years ago)

those are wicked pictures too!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 13:41 (twenty years ago)

where are some online reviews of Coachella? I haven't heard a peep about how it was and I can't search without finding just a bunch of previews.

Hey Hollywood, did you take those pictures?
