when are we going to get a good new drug / music scene already?

We haven't really had a good new drug for music since Ecstasy, have we? I mean there isn't really much of a music scene springing up around meth - and even if there is, thumbs down.

Zaphod's just this guy, you know? (lukas), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

And no, another new coke-fueled microscene doesn't count. Looking for a totally new molecule/compound.

the meth thing is outta hand. the u.s. government is thisclose to banning advil and dropping bombs on any country that sells it. fucking morons. how stupid do you have to be to be in law enforcement/government? war on drugs=cheapest, purest, and most plentiful coke & heroin EVER! Billions spent on border protection= more illegal aliens than EVER. Who can't go home! Cuz it's too hard to! banning cold medicine should work fine. they are almost too dumb to live.

um, but really, we all just need more acid. someone said it is really hard to get these days, no? or harder than it used to be. we could all make the 60's look like a friggin' tea party, man! who's with me!!!! (i have to be in by ten or eleven though.)

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

fuck acid man. I'm with Lukas -- we need something new. Maybe some kind of nanobot that can swim into your brain and mess around with your serotonin or something. There was about 30 years between the invention of acid and its popularization (and resulting criminalization) so assuming that things are 2 to 3 times accelerated these days we should be looking for something that was invented 10 or 15 years ago and is currently legal.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

the new drug is spinning and circles and making yourself dizzy. like whirling dervishes.

now we need the soundtrack.

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

Richard Thompson's a sufi, right?

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:21 (twenty years ago)

For a while I really thought acid was going to come back... seemed like it was easier to get (at least around here) for a short period during the summer. I dropped with my brother and he was rambling all excited like "I really hope acid comes back and rock musicians take it and rock music becomes relavent again and then there's a movement and then a revolution and and and"

But what I'm saying is we definitely need a new drug and a new scene but it couldn't possibly be bad if acid comes back, could it?

SONNY, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

How about sparks? But seriously, there are a plethora of new drugs out there, recently of the hullicinogenic variety. Stuff like 2ci and the ilk.

Stephen C (ihope), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

SLEEP DEPRIVATION.
It's free and legal. I'm talking about just staying up late here, nothing to do with amphetamines.
Could lead to a slowcore or shoegazing revival.

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

I like singulair so far.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

Ketamine! We already have k-house...

Then there's "foxy"...

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

Devil Dust = Crack rocks dipped in PCP

novamax (novamax), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

salt & vinegar crisp huffing. it's the new "chroming", donchaknow.

turboalbino (haitch), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

can you be creative on foxy? i would think it'd be pretty damn difficult...

heywood jablomi (heywood), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:14 (twenty years ago)

Devil Dust = Crack rocks dipped in PCP

Holy cow, someone found a way to make crack even less appealing.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

what is this "foxy" you speak of?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

it is where you consume the freshly-skinned pelt of a fox, which has been drizzled with cocaine and absinthe.

turboalbino (haitch), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

P141.

Salvia?

Too bad it's such a shitty drug. I guess we can look forward to a bunch of really, really short songs.

Mickey (modestmickey), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

How about the drug from "The Secret Adventures of Alex Mack." That seems like it would be rediculous.

Stephen C (ihope), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

Foxy = foxymethoxytryptamine or some such gibberish.

It's like really strong, trippy e.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

Drug = Ether

Band = Earth

Scene = ComaCore

Nothing but layers of drone and fuzz washing over you in slow motion. Think about it. It would be AWESOME.

jsoulja (jsoulja), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 06:05 (twenty years ago)

what about oxycontin (sp?).. or did Def Jux already wear out its welcome?

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 06:22 (twenty years ago)

heh. perscription drugs are nothing new to music.

Stephen C (ihope), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

yea, but people are getting WAY fucked up on it. i know one kid that OD'd and several more that basically sit around their apartment every weekend going "guuhhhhhhh..." this is all back in mid-west land, though. new york is just blow.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 07:20 (twenty years ago)

In America, you find good new drugs. In Soviet Russia, good new drugs find YOU!

Yakov Smirnoff, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

DMT?

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

SLEEP DEPRIVATION.

I've overdosed a great many times on this up until a few years ago.

E and even weed seem to be very unpopular here these days, coke is all the rage apparently. Among young people painkillers and other shit like that is all the rage.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

2CI is fantastic and I could imagine it stimulating a lot of new music, especially since one stays fairly lucid while on it...much moreso than, say, shrooms.

Also...DiPT (http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/dipt/dipt.shtml) only affects your hearing apparently.

Roger, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

the u.s. government is thisclose to banning advil

Really. Why?

Omar (Omar), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

i think i meant sudafed. i'm not a very good ranter. but they will probably come for your advil next. i don't put anything past them.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

Gruts.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

The short-term high of Salvia is a real bitch, but if you can get some particularly strong Salvia and toss it in a bowl with some hash, it's awful nice.

But yeah, a new drug would be nice. Unfortunately, I've really curtailed my drug use since I'm on a pile of Rx neurological meds (diabetic neuropathy sucks), none of which have fun side effects.

Josh Witkowski (braineater), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

2c-i and foxy (which is not like really strong, trippy ecstasy in the least - it's a minor tactile sensory enhancer that gets profoundly uncomfortable and has troubling physical side effects at psychedelic levels) suck balls. Any music made on them would probably suck balls too.

My vote would go to 2c-d and 4-aco-mipt for most worthwhile musical applications.

ZR (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

I meant PT-141.

js (honestengine), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

CTA-102

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

This is exactly why Huey Lewis was fucking around, making drugs out of household cleaners around the time of "I wanna new drug."

dkfjfkj, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

Well, we see where scotchguard led us.

js (honestengine), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

i think you are all forgetting the zoloft / coldplay scene

W i l l (common_person), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

x post to scotchgaurd comment: Ween?

- Anyways, perhaps the crazy amount of college kids taking study drugs (adderal and the like) could lead to some really intense and focused nerdcore with lyrics about the pressures of law/med school.

-- W i l l (lolomgwt...) (webmail), December 14th, 2005. (common_person)

I think it's more of a Zoloft / Dashboard Confessional type scene.

do people gas-huff together?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

sounds like we have the drugs, we just need new names.
