gangsta andy partridge, Thursday, 15 December 2005 07:58 (twenty years ago)

XTC. "Grass" might be my least favorite song on that Animal Collective album, I suspect it is the one which will wear thin the fastest.

The XTC boggles me every time.

xtc. the AC one is felled by 'lame bridge syndrome'

vhj, Thursday, 15 December 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

XTC of course. Their new single, though, "Where Do All the Normal People Go?" is dire, syruppy, edgeless, KRAP! It pains me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 December 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

i pick talk talk's "new grass."

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 15 December 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

XTC. Always reminds me that, why yes, I would fancy an ice cream cone.

erklie, Thursday, 15 December 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

you're all wrong. animal collective all the way. fuck XTC.

Tynan DeLong (TynanTynan!), Thursday, 15 December 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

xtc should let animal collective produce them

Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 15 December 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

J.D. otm.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 December 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Comparing XTC to Animal Collective is like comparing a priceless gem to a moldy dollop of rancid spam.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 December 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

not really.

keyth (keyth), Friday, 16 December 2005 02:41 (twenty years ago)

I agree with Alex in Nyc, but he's confused about who's the moldy dollop of rancid spam I believe(not really, but I'm rooting for Animal Collective).

Jibé (Jibé), Friday, 16 December 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

XTC, no question.

zeus (zeus), Friday, 16 December 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

BTW, what about the Aphex Twin song off SAW II that's supposedly called Grass?

Animal Collective because they know how to, oh I don't know, record music correctly.

(I fucking HATE XTC's production, on just about every album, even if the producers vary, and Animal Collective get the best sound I've heard in years.)

Oh and Grass is an amazing song with good lyrics.

NONONON, Friday, 16 December 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

Oh and Grass is an amazing song with good lyrics.

Yep, that Colin Moulding certainly knows how to write 'em

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 16 December 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

i was going to say animal collective 'cuz skylarking's production bugs me (and the ac's grass is a great single) but consulting Itunes reveals my favorite pretty things song, "grass", which is better than all three!

but "rocket from a bottle" would beat "purple bottle" any day.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!, Friday, 16 December 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

the "would you like to see me ... often" part kills it for me ... and NOT in the good sense of 'killing it'

njkl, Friday, 16 December 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Animal Collective aren't fit to sift through XTC's feces.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

Animal Collective aren't fit to sift through XTC's fences? Oh right, I see!

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

yeah dude cuz XTC weren't fuckin' fag art pussies. they had an edge.

lfklfklk, Friday, 16 December 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

What little I heard from Animal Collective = OTC but more "free". bleh.

XTC's "Grass" is a low point on the album, although it's not a terrible song. God, Virgin were the fucking worst for picking singles for XTC, weren't they?

I choose the Meter's "Grass" (bonus track on second album Look-ka Py Py)

dali madison's nut (donut), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
opinions aren't worth a whole lot.
both songs have their place.

mister carmex, Wednesday, 11 January 2006 06:33 (twenty years ago)

EVERYONE PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:

Listen to Animal Collective's "Grass."

Now listen to T. Rex's "She Was Born to Be My Unicorn."

thank you.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 09:21 (twenty years ago)

calstars, Thursday, 8 December 2016 03:16 (nine years ago)

XTC, though in the right state of mind I could agree with Feels > Skylarking.

J. Sam, Thursday, 8 December 2016 03:17 (nine years ago)

Love XTC to death, but flappy bird otm

Vinnie, Thursday, 8 December 2016 04:14 (nine years ago)

There is literally no instance ever where Animal Collective is better than XTC.

Austin, Thursday, 8 December 2016 05:35 (nine years ago)

Animal Collective no contest for me. XTC's Grass is one of the best songs on Skylarking but I don't know... it sounds very fey to me and I hate the song because it has the effect of reminding me of a certain 90's sound I don't think kindly of like Smashmoth and Barenaked Ladies. I know it doesn't sound anything like them but it gives me the same vibe... like trying way too hard to sound chill. Yeah I know I'm saying stupid shit but it's what it sounds like to me.

Moka, Thursday, 8 December 2016 05:49 (nine years ago)

otm. i like the melody but colin's voice just sounds awful to me

flappy bird, Thursday, 8 December 2016 06:13 (nine years ago)

I think the key is wrong for Colin's voice. It's quite low and Colin sounds very flat (dynamically, not tonally). The full harmony sections at the end are great though
