Anybody have any news on the new Chk Chk Chk record? Anybody heard any new tracks?

Mr Gripper (Mr Gripper), Sunday, 18 December 2005 07:18 (twenty years ago)

They played a bunch of new material when I saw them a couple of weeks ago. Pretty good; I'm looking forward to absorbing it better when the record comes out.

I liek to fuck attractive women such as Madonna.

Confounded (Confounded), Sunday, 18 December 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

Doesn't everyone with a modicum of self-respect?

Mr Gripper (Mr Gripper), Sunday, 18 December 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

I heard the new stuff also, at one point they did this killer jam with Mario and Justin both playing bass, Nic singing, and all four other guys pounding the drums. Should be good. The massive hating on this band leaves me confused.

sleeve (sleeve), Sunday, 18 December 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Never realised there was much of a 'hating' scene around this band. I'm even more confused. What is their not like? Whats the main bone of contention?...I can see a point when a radical change in sound becomes necessary, though. That ACR / rave / ESG championing of punching the air on an MDMA high can't last forever...unfortunately.

Mr Gripper (Mr Gripper), Sunday, 18 December 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

awful vocals
no hooks while never really being as groovy/out there as their purported influences
life being too short for !!! while there's actual dance music out there

still, good single

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 December 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Hmmn...Granted the vocals maybe are a bit weak. What do you mean by 'actual' dance music, though?

Mr Gripper (Mr Gripper), Sunday, 18 December 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

The hating (not from me) stems mostly from disliking the guys dance moves.

peepee (peepee), Sunday, 18 December 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

But who cares what someone's dance moves are like, if the tunes be great and their enthusiasm infectious? Actually, come to think of it- awkward dance moves can be a bonus- see Ian Curtis, Bez, Byrne, etc

Mr Gripper (Mr Gripper), Sunday, 18 December 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

actual dance music is BALTIMORE GUTTER MUSIC

also jess has been known to rock out to fluxpop in his underoos

.- \(O_o)/-' (mookie wilson), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

that LFO remix of "giuliani" that totally guts the original and puts the remains through the vitalic grinder is awesome. I can take or leave the rest.

out hud are better.

haitch (haitch), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

out hud all the way for me.

seeing !!! live killed it. over the top try hard performance. sad really

matte (matte), Monday, 19 December 2005 06:27 (twenty years ago)

yeah they just try too hard

howell huser (chaki), Monday, 19 December 2005 07:11 (twenty years ago)

I've seen both !!! and OutHud live and I was too busy loving it to notice if anyone was trying too hard... but then again I'm a big discopunkdancefunk fag aynway, so whatevs.

P.S. White Rose Movement is the new hotness.

Hm, sounds really similar to the stuff on "Myth Takes". Which isnt a bad thing, but it isnt much of a development.

property-disrespecting Moroccan handjob (Trayce), Thursday, 27 May 2010 07:02 (sixteen years ago)

I hear a return to the Can/post-punk sound of Louden Up Now, from more the more populist/reverent funks of Myth Takes. I'm looking forward to it, for more frisson between one of the best rhythm sections and the most embarassing lyricist, ever....

this has leaked, btw.

Boo Radley (Bee OK), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 03:50 (fifteen years ago)

Eyyy, excellent.

C.R.E.P.E (Trayce), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 05:44 (fifteen years ago)

I want Out Hud back :(

This is pretty good stuff, though less immediately catchy than Myth Takes and missing a kick-ass long form track like "Bend Over Beethoven" (hoping for another "Giuliani" is probably unrealistic). That album has disappeared into the hard drive ether so it might be a positive thing in the end.

skip, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 16:41 (fifteen years ago)

It's just an initial impression, of course, but it doesn't seem like to me that !!! has any bite left. This sounds like it was recorded specifically for some Starbucks-go-indie-funk promotion or something.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

is 'the hammer' a new take on the tune from the first LP?

i just got an email for free tickets tonight, should i go and see them? are they any good live?

Bee OK, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 01:10 (eight years ago)

if they are anything like when I saw them in the late nineties in a gallery space in knoxville then they are a complete blast live

these guys do not get enough credit for the sheer number of jams they have cranked out

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Sunday, 2 August 2020 00:31 (five years ago)

I saw them live in 2007 in Montpellier, France and it has been one of the most fun concerts I’ve been to. The whole audience danced non-stop for three hours.

I agree that they are very underrated.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 2 August 2020 00:48 (five years ago)

oh I wonder if they have any good bootlegs

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Sunday, 2 August 2020 00:52 (five years ago)

yeah they were amazing live, better than the records

brimstead, Sunday, 2 August 2020 01:33 (five years ago)

Like ‘em, but Out Hud were leagues better

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Sunday, 2 August 2020 04:27 (five years ago)

out hud were also very fun live

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 2 August 2020 06:06 (five years ago)

Great live band. If the world gets to have live music but no travel in the postdemic future, they'd make a killer residency act for a bar almost anywhere.
