Only because Steve Vai played on both. Go.

Tough call. "Yankee Rose" had a much better video than "Rise," though.

Album by miles. Just because of the sheer randomness of finding Vai on a PiL record.

Also from that site:

STEVE TURRE

Born: 12.9.48. Omaha, Nebraska, USA
PiL: Conch Shells & Didjeridu (!)
Notes: Hired by Bill Laswell as a session musician for 'Album'. His conch shells and Didjeridu parts on 'Ease' were recorded at Quad Recording Studios. Roger Trilling: "(During the recording) I would give John bulletins as we drank beer in bars. 'Today Steve Turre blew into conch shells', 'tomorrow a Didjeridu'. John grew wary, restive, even aggravated."

John grew wary, restive, even aggravated.

Lydon?! Why, I never would've guessed.

Another thing to consider, of course, is how Yoko Ono's Starpeace rates amongst these albums.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:54 (twenty years ago)

(oh wait no Vai was the connection not Laswell - my bad)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

Still, what's yer take on Starpeace, Tim?

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Monday, 19 December 2005 04:58 (twenty years ago)

I'm kind of curious to hear it again. I didn't like it when I bought it in a dollar bin over a decade ago. What do you think of it?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 19 December 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

I've only heard a few tracks of it -- although I have Onobox, so I should check again. But my memory was that it was a VERY brittle-sounding Laswell production...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Monday, 19 December 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

It has Sly and Robbie and Tony Williams and Bernie Worrell on it.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 19 December 2005 05:23 (twenty years ago)

Most of Laswell's mid-80s stuff does. Unfortunately, it's not as attractive a proposition on those other records as you'd hope.

That said, Album/Cassette/Compact Disc is fucking fantastic.
