garageband recording-- I'm getting static! help please

so i've been recording with garageband for only a month and sometimes when i record all i get is feedback when i playback what i recorded. underneath the sea of static/fuzz, you can barely hear the music. as soon as it magically starts working again, everything else i record from then on is clean and the static is no longer present or a problem. the problem is that i dont know how to fix it when i want to use it and lately the computer magically fixing itself isn't even happening anymore. for input, i have it set to internal microphone (since it's all i have) and output i usually set to headphones but that's not the problem because i've tried without headphones and with speakers and none of the combinations seem to work. has anybody else had this problem and/or does anyone know how to fix it? thanks a lot~

thanks, but i wouldnt dare bother you guys with a question like this if i could find the answer on the support page or help function so seeing as how this isn't addressed on apples website or the computer/garageband's help function, if any one has had this problem and has conquered it, please let me know.

"for input, I have it set to internal microphone"

uh that's gonna be your problem there, pretty sure

seeing as how the internal mic (admittedly not the best out there) has worked in the past and has produced fine recordings, i'm pretty sure the quality of the microphone has little to do with my problem.

You have to turn off the input monitor function on the tracks you're trying to record to once you're done, or you'll most definitely get howling feedback and distortion. Same thing happens with Logic Audio using the built-in mic.

thanks a lot tantrum the cat, but unfortunately that's not it. when i turn on the monitoring function to begin with, i get static. i tried recording anyway and then turning the monitoring for the track off afterwards, but it still recorded the static despite my use of headphones during the recording process. your constructive criticism was much appreciated though : >

Something about your use of the wrong term made me laugh out loud. Thanks.

lee is free....hmm...what a dick. hang in there buyabzinatch, you're facing a tough crowd that tend to go out of their way to be assholes

example: "Something about your use of the wrong term made me laugh out loud. Thanks."

Looserreal, Tuesday, 20 December 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

Pardon my misuse of the wrong term Lee is Free. I'm glad it made you laugh (out loud, no less!!) and I'm thankful for your willingness to point it out in an attempt to humiliate me (?)

In any case, I had a question I wanted answered and since it's finals I'm grumpy and I have a low tolerance for shit so I tried to thank Tantrum the Cat for being the only person who has attemped to be of actual help.

You're right though, it seems that I did misuse the term. My bad I guess.

EDIT: Thank you Tantrum the cat for...
1) the advice
2) not being an asshole
3) trying to help in a polite and non-elitist, non-"this is a waste of time" manner

And Lee is Free-maybe I got the wrong impression because, like I said, I'm grumpy today but you seem like an asshole. The thing I don't like about ilx is people like you. Email me if you want to respond because other ilxers don't need to waste their time on shit like this.

Brutus commands you to put 2 or 3 Bounce
towels, along with your microphones, and
put them in your dryer (on the delicate cycle)
for 30 minutes !!!

i'm not a betting man, but i'd wager that this entire thread is fueled by finals-week insanity
