Ethan's right about "Daydream Believer". "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" is awesome.

I think all three (Dolenz, Jones, Nesmith; of course, Tork undeniably sucked as a singer) had some degree of charm and power as vocalists.

I always will start singing "Girl I Knew Somewhere" in my head whenever someone mentions Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)"
Pleasant Valley Sunday really is the bestest though.

This is playing in a cafe and through these speakers its sounding like an out-take from Joe Meeks I Hear A New World, sped up and ruined
― saer, Monday, 15 February 2016 09:41 (nine years ago)
this is a great song despite davy jones being a "problematic" singer they had their share of questionable material but this is upper echelon, old school ilm missing the mark hereplus davy's finger-snapping shimmy in the video is all-time

Forgot about the Monkees....makes me mad that we don't have real oldies radio anymore here in Chicago. Although they pipe that shit in at that assisted living facility where my momma lives. I guess that's the attitude toward anyone who remembers the sixties.

It's amazes me that this song was written by John Stewart (the Kingston Trio/"Gold" guy).

Me too. Can't remember if I ever put that together before.

Jones' singing has never, in any way, been problematic for me. What is the problem?
― timellison, Saturday, 18 May 2019 18:29 (six years ago)
Kind of don’t want to go there, but of the two main vocalists always think of Micky as the “real” singer and Davy as sort of more the readymade English idol, the poor man’s Anthony Newley, if you will.
― Careless Love Battery (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 18 May 2019 18:44 (six years ago)
Wrong city and accent. Hard to separate Davy from his onscreen persona, which was the least interesting and engaging one in 'the band'. He could sing but he needed the right song, unlike Mickey, who could sing anything. This was a good song for him.

He is a bit like a de-vibratoed Robin Gibb, though that might have something to do with the Manchester accent.

Wrong city and accent.

No thread for The Birds, the Bees & the Monkees? (The three preceeding albums were polled.) Been going through their albums and this one is really good.
Are the subsequent records worth listening to?

Yes.
― Blake the Messenger (Tom D.), Tuesday, 17 June 2025 17:23 (six months ago)
At some point in hearing this song as a youth the lyrics became “Daydream believer, i’m a homecoming queen!” and it’s still that way and it makes me happy.
