“Raymond, you’re insane to start a nominations thread at a time when people are chafing from year-end list making! What the hell is wrong with you?”

Well, I’ve spent most of my life doing stupid things, and I figure, why change now? Besides, this should make for a nice distraction from contemplating what the best singles or albums from 2005 were or the nature of consensus this year or whatever. And it’s not like you have to vote yet! Just nominate some favorites from a decade ago and post them on this thread, and you have until FEBRUARY 28, 2006 to do so. Voting deadline will be sometime in the spring.

You don’t necessarily have to love a record to nominate it.

Remix records, movie soundtracks, and compilations released in 1995 are eligible; EPs and albums re-issued in 1995 aren’t.

Feel free to pimp stuff you love and think other people should vote for, and to smack down stuff you think sucks.

I’ll weigh in with a couple noms of my own:

Pavement Wowee Zowee (Matador)
Fugazi Red Medicine (Dischord)
Thurston Moore Psychic Hearts (DGC)
Nine Inch Nails Further Down The Spiral (Nothing/Interscope)
The Amps Pacer (4AD)

Don't think any of these have been nominated yet, and they all have a chance of votes from me:

Massive Attack - No Protection: Massive Attack Vs. Mad Professor
DJ Food - A Recipe For Disaster
Atari Teenage Riot - Delete Yourself!
Brian Wilson - I Just Wasn't Made for These Times
McAlmont and Butler - The Sound Of...McAlmont and Butler
The Fall - Cerebral Caustic
Bomb the Bass - Clear
David Holmes - This Film's Crap, Let's Slash the Seats
Masta Ace - Sittin' On Chrome
Dave Clarke - Archive One
DJ SS - DJs Delite Volume 2 (a mix)
v.a. - Routes From The Jungle

I could see the Wu rivalling Pulp, but GZA and Raekwon might split their vote some, so Pulp to win. And quite right too. I'd like to see Gerald and the Chems up there, but I guess they might not get so many US votes. And I guess there will be some American alternative rock stuff that does well, but I don't have much clue what it will be.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 December 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Banco de Gaia: Last Train to Lhasa

4 Hero - Parallel Universe

My copy of Parallel Universe with the cover below also has the year as 1995, but I'm pretty sure I've seen a version of it with a different cover that has 1994 as the release year. Can anyone back me up?

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Sunday, 25 December 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

José Alberto - On Time (Some parts sound a little dull and bogged down in mid-90s salsa industry ennui, but most of the songs take off at some point, and El Canario sounds great on this.)

La Gran Banda De Venezuela - Sabrosito (This is actually really great, but kind of obscure even within the context of Latin music.)

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Sunday, 25 December 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)
