also, stay fly is close to single of the year.
virtually everything I've heard from 3-6 is worth at least a listen; some of it is unbelievably good.
"Whoop that Trick" was intended to be "Smack That Bitch" till Terrence Howard pussed out and made them change it.

Lolli is the shit - people love it at parties. I'm kinda flabbergasted more of America hasn't come around to it, but then the Lollipop title was extremely ill-chosen. First, Three 6 throws in the horror into club music, then adds some soul for an Oscar, and now they're on some electro shit and keeping it real. I <3 Three 6 Mafia!

"Lolli Lolli" is so fucking wack.
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 05:42 (seventeen years ago)
the beat and the verses are really just about on par for an uptempo Three 6 track, it's the T-Pain impersonator on the hook that almost singlehandedly makes it awful.
― some dude, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 05:48 (seventeen years ago)
also because it's such a shameless pop grab and they did seem above that kinda even post-oscar
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 05:50 (seventeen years ago)
yeah but i mean without that hook it wouldn't even come off like a shameless pop grab at all.
― some dude, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 05:51 (seventeen years ago)
it's not even like they went out and made a "pork and beans" style winking pop song that happened to catch on
otoh how many ppl that are bitching about "lolli" would be bitching about last 2 walk never getting freed if three 6 had said "fuck you" to their label
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 05:52 (seventeen years ago)
if i was actively watching for three 6 albums id be okay with a "lolli lolli" if it meant that the damn thing finally got out
it's weird that they gave it the "birthday girl" treatment in the sequencing. i thought they genuinely were feeling that song but i guess they are just selling it. then again maybe they had that tracklist set up and when "lolli" broke and the label okayed the release they just tacked it on at the end.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 05:54 (seventeen years ago)
yall think this would be more or less defensible (or the same?) if the hook was actually t-pain
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 05:59 (seventeen years ago)

Wow-- I had "Poppin' My Collar" #1 on my 2006 year-end (not sure I want to put that to the test right now), and I made a joking reference to them on Facebook not an hour ago, not knowing about this. They also inspired my favourite Jon Stewart line, the night he hosted the Academy Awards: "For those of you keeping track at home: Three 6 Mafia, one Oscar, Martin Scorsese, zero."
― clemenza, Sunday, 22 December 2013 05:46 (twelve years ago)
they're also one of the best-known, prolific and consistently enjoyable rap collectives of all time so they've got that going for them as well.

I think Stewart's line was much more of a wry observation on the then-winless Scorsese than any kind of a knock on Three 6 Mafia, who just happened to have won that night (although their improbability made it that much funnier). He could have substituted Tatum O'Neal or Phil Collins and the joke still would have worked.
Having said that, you're right, not the best moment to dredge up the line.

fun times seeing these guys last night (following a set by hugh masekela, i think i could historically be the first person to do that double feature); no juicy j but that's not much of a surprise given there was a headliner show by him a few days earlier. maybe only two hundred people there which was a bummer, but hey: southern rappers going on an nyc stage at midnight on a Tuesday. very nerdy and hot topic crowd but super laid back and very excited to see the band. like a forty minute medley set, sans Juicy/Infamous there were a lot of songs they couldn't get very far into. Props for resurrecting 'Get the Fuck Out My Face' and 'Da Blow'.
