"My Humps" brings up "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)".

Fantastic.

it's not working so well for me, it's a little raggedy.

"Gentle On My Mind" by Johnny Cash has no exact matches. But it brings up "Waiting in Vain" by Annie Lennox with a 44% compatibility. This is officially the greatest time killer ever.

A late entry in the last.fm vs. pandora competition... I still can't figure out what Tapestry does or how.

Tapestry is a playlisting/recommendation engine prototype from All Media Guide. Read the tutorial regarding how to use it. Tapestry is powered by hundreds of music experts who evaluate and catagorize music all day long, and have been preparing data for Tapestry for several years.

What if you've downloaded all of the releases by The Arcade Fire and want to hear more music like that?
God help us...

Works great for me. Did you try reading the tutorial?

BillyB, Sunday, 25 December 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I read it, but the only thing I can guess at this point is that the intention is to force you to use Windows Media Player instad of Winamp.

Also pretty sad that I should have to read a tutorial in order to figure out how to push a play button and get sound out of it.

Tapestry works great for me. All of the files appear to be in WMA format, so you may be stuck without using WMP. What OS are you using?

The playlists are awesome! It is so cool being able to pick "Hard Rock" and "Road Trip" for example, and get great music for a long drive.

I've tried all the playlisting engines, but this seems to be the best.

bimble87, WinAmp is well known to have problems dealing with WMA streams. Are you using the most recent _paid_ version? If not, there is a good chance you will have problems.

BTW, Tapestry works fine for me on both my WinXP and Mac OS X (Tiger) machines. I am using WMP for both. The way Tapestry allows for detail situational playlist creation via the themes is intriguing.

I agree, Tapestry is one of the best ways to burn time ever invented!

Merry Christmas.

Yeah, an embedded media player would be hot, but from what I can tell, Flash is not able to interpret WMA files at all. If Allmusic is stuck streaming WMAs, I don't see another solution besides calling Windows Media Player.

Overall it seems to be one of the best recommendation systems I've seen. It really seems as though the folks at Allmusic have dug deep and pulled out some of those lesser-known songs that the other streaming services might ignore.

From what the tutorial says, it seems as though they are not planning on making this available through their website, but are hoping somebody else pick it up.

picks up telephone: "Uh, hello? iTunes? Yes, I would like to be able to select "Hard Rock" and "Road Trip" and hear all of my own songs with those criteria. Get this enabled for iTunes 6.0 please. Thank you." Click.
