What did the original cover for "Sister Lovers/Three" look like?

According an interview in the liner notes of the CD release, the band never believed the record to be finished and the 1992 version was the only official version. Was there original art waiting to be used in '78? Is the CD all there is?

nah this thing was on vinyl in many different versions pre-cd, i remember this one - - being the most common. i remember seeing at least two different tracklistings floating around - one ended with holocaust (which is crazy) i think - and i think there was at least one other version out there that maybe started with holocaust (also crazy) cuz i remember spin's review of wowee zowie not only noting 'hey - it's a big star 3rd song!' but also noting it led the album off like 'holocaust' did on a pre-92 version. that dude could be full of shit though. pretty sure none of these had anything like 'official' or original artwork, and obv the cd's design is pretty firmly 92. not sure exactly how widely released or 'released' it was but it was definitely around, alot more so even than say smile ever was, people covered 'jesus christ' and 'holocaust' and 'thank you friends' and what have you. you could probably find an old vinyl precursor on ebay somewhere, i've seen them in record stores still for sure. i've always liked that the cd has 'bonus cuts' at the end even though it's the first time it was 'officially' released right? (and that the voice slotted it as a reissue in 92 but dylan live 66 as a 'new' album in 98).

My 1989-ish vinyl copy started off with 'Stroke It Noel' and had a sort of blurry greeny blue cover.

http://www.mic.gr/%5CdbImages%5C24820_4.jpg is the UK edition from 1978, though there is an even earlier US edition on PVC with a b/w pic of Alex & Jody.
Oh, here's one. Looks like it's worth a bit...

As far as I know, the PVC version was the first ever released, without the involvement of any band members. As such, I don't think there was any "official" artwork, unless you count the Rykodisc CD.
I could be wrong, but I think at least a couple of the "bonus cuts" on the Rykodisc version were previously unreleased and had never appeared on any previous "unofficial" version of -Third-. So I guess the term "bonus cut" does qualify, sorta...

My 1989-ish vinyl copy started off with 'Stroke It Noel'

as do all good versions of the album. start with "stroke it noel,""for you" and "kizza me," end with "holocaust," "kangaroo" and "thank you friends."

I like -Third- ending with "Nightime"/"Blue Moon"/"Take Care" myself. And not just because the Rykodisc version ends that way.

i'm partial to this order of things too, though that partiality is certainly influenced by the PVC (cassette) version being my first exposure.

i remember this review as well, but weren't they speaking of its resemblance to "stroke it noel" rather than "holocaust"?
