Reposted with flashier thread title, since no one was interested in the last one.

Who has a machine?

I used mine as the background for thanksgiving dinner. And put three of them around my cubicle to maximum calmness.

hmm interesting idea - kinda neat. dunno if I actually wanna own one though.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 23 December 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

this will be a post-holiday splurge for me.

patita (patita), Friday, 23 December 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

i bought one. it's a hacked version (nine loops instead of one) of a box that my local buddhist bookstore occasionally gives away free with a purchase--not exactly built to last. the loops are nice, but i felt kind of stupid for spending $25 on it.

dan (dan), Friday, 23 December 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

It's my work de-stresser, it also a low key way to end the night. My partner in crime layered both of ours at the end of our last DJ set.

Mine's red.

Douglas (Douglas), Saturday, 24 December 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

I bought 25 couple months ago. Sent them out to family and friends for the holidays. Great sound object.

juno crunch, Saturday, 24 December 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

would be better if it played the buddah records catalogue.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Sunday, 25 December 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

Merry Xmas, Douglas!

You spent $625 on a cheap novelty for everyone? I found one of those noisemakers in the lobby (heartbeat, rain, white noise, crickets, etc.) and used it for a total of about 15 minutes.

Whuh?, Sunday, 25 December 2005 05:58 (twenty years ago)

mine just came (I say it's mine, it's actually for my gf) and it's green! a lot smaller than I thought and v.cool

yeah, the speaker is a bit rub but run it through yr stereo and the loops are v.v. relaxing and warm

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 7 January 2006 10:59 (twenty years ago)

i have a white one that ear-rational got to me very quickly. quite soothing.

william harris (drone/a/sore), Saturday, 7 January 2006 17:58 (twenty years ago)

Mine arrived broken, very sad. Hoping Forced Exposure will hook me up with another green one as a replacement. In the meantime I've looped the mp3s in individual iTunes playlists set to "repeat all," a poor substitute for the object itself...

Dr. Gene Scott (shinybeast), Saturday, 7 January 2006 19:16 (twenty years ago)

i got one from the fm3 guys themselves when interviewed them at mutek last year. it's green. and they signed it for me!

this thing is wonderful

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 00:52 (twenty years ago)

It's the shoddy speaker that makes it all sound even better! It's like you're picking up some transmission but instead of creepy Conet numbers it's a nice little chill loop. A+.

Petroski (petroski), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 01:51 (twenty years ago)

OTM - the cheap speaker makes it truly ambient - we had dinner tonight with a single loop playing the whole time, a nice long slow dinner too, and didn't get bored nor overwhelmed, just tickled by pleasant sounds - it is just fantastic.

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 02:05 (twenty years ago)

I just got a second one!

Does anyone in New York wanna have a buddha box party?

i thought this would be about this:

and i'm kind of disappointed that it's not.

this has been my experience. it's hard for my friends to "get it" unless I run it through the stereo.

has anyone hacked it?

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Sunday, 10 September 2006 04:45 (nineteen years ago)

Hacked it how?

MRZBW (MRZBW), Sunday, 10 September 2006 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

I imagine in a way that enables you to load your own loops into it. That's usually the second question my friends ask. I haven't heard of one specifically, but who knows. The Anti-Advertising Agency has built units kind of like this out of hacked portable CD players.

i'd rather smoke salvia with forksclovetofu as my safety coach.

mr. brojangles (sanskrit), Sunday, 10 September 2006 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

I bought a green one while I was living in Shanghai, which was nice because it was cheaper that way.

It's nice enough, but I wish there were more long loops on there. One of them is around 45 seconds longs, and it's probably my favorite.

My friends made fun of me for buying it, though. They assumed it was for meditating.

YES

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Sunday, 10 September 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

Who has a machine?

I do, bought for €8.90 in 2010. It‘s alright, I get better meditation results without it 🤷🏼

oder doch?, Friday, 18 July 2025 12:07 (ten months ago)

I have three of them sitting in a desk drawer. I need to put new batteries in them, then maybe I can sample the loops and use them for something.
