'Signing at Virgin two weeks ago. Glasgow or Manchester. Kids queueing up with the usual disgusting things for the band to sign (tits, dead birds etc). Kid at front of queue holding a pink squishy banana-y type thing. Arsey security guard says to him "Whats that in your hand? The band aren't signing it until you tell me wht it is". Boy says "It IS my hand", holding up stump'

Slipknot really bothers me. I suppose I could just be getting older (the phrase "those darn kids" started to mean something to me a few years back) but I just don't 'get' the attraction to something so negative. Also, I just don't see why most White North American Males don't realize that they've got it pretty good. Everybody's got problems, but get a grip, kids.

Yeah, life rules, dude!

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 2 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, what I meant to say was "I like Slipknot." They are very funny. It's dark humor, but it's more complicated than just banga banga everybody hates me. Now if we're talking System of a Down, on the other hand...

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 2 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I admit to not giving them much of a chance. Probably a knee-jerk to the masks and the genre...

Ron Hudson, Saturday, 2 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

GWAR could kick Slipknots ass with one...uh...talon tied behind its collective back. Feh!

Lord Custos, Saturday, 2 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is mushroomhead better than slipknot?

keith, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Uh...everybody is better than Slipknot.

Lord Custos, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But System Of A Down has some very cool things going on in their music what with the incorporation of Armenian folk music and such.

Dan Perry, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, but i don't like their videos (though i can't remember any) (the bloody stump would be a good one)

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The singer from System of a Down has a very strange accent. Slipknot are probably the most cartoonish metal band around; I can't imagine being depressed by them. And presumably things were even better for white north american males when rock and roll was invented. How do you even know they're white, have you seen them without the masks?

Why all the negativity? Slipknot are a band - doing their job - pleasing kids and adults alike all over the world. They are making music and people and loving it. It seems now days that the more famous and conterversial a band - the more likely they are to be critisized and that sucks. For instance "they just a loadsa talentless shows offs" No wrong. Theyre nine mature adults who have the talent that it takes to get to the position that theyre in. Id like to see some of you guys get that famous and be comforatbable with it. They cope with the pressures of being in a band, and they cope with the bad attitudes people give them. If you dont see the point in slipknot then dont open your mouth. Bands like them should be praised for doing such a great thing. Who else could bring town centres to a stand still na dsell out whole concerts. theyve down what other bands suceed in 10 years in just 800 days. This band are making good music. If it was shit it wouldnt be signed to a major label. If it was all about the image they would go for somwting that the mainstream would agree with - not blood covered masks. You cant say they use shock tactics either - people are going to have different views of them. they average human doesnt do this: "oh my god what a scary and sick looking maks - no i shall follow the band and buy all their stuff". People like slipknot for the music - for the mood - for the experience - not to look 'cool'. I dont see any of u guys mouthin of to KISS who are the biggest sell outs of all time. Leave this band alone - theyve got more talent than most and u should atleast give them some credit for working so hard to get where they are now. If u think its depressing then fine go ahead and say so. If you think its bullshit then cry about it in your own time - dont slag off when you know fuck all about the Iowa Nine.

PS: u can call me sad - but im happy and im living my life and slipknot are one of the small things that make it that much better.

Adios.

The only way a story about Slipknot could be characterized as "cool" would be if it involved their ritualistic beheadings.
