Love is the only weapon with which I got to fight? Bullshit! Jim Jones in song.

After hearing the Alabama 3 "Mao Tse Tung" track last night, which opens with Big Jim Jones' famous narrative, I started trying to think of other tracks that he provides a cameo on. Concrete Blonde's "Jesus Forgive Me" is the only other one that I could think of off the top of my head.
(Related thread).

Where else has the late great spread his Kool-Aid?
And is he not the greatest apocalyptic ranter in pop music? Discuss.

Everything by Psychic TV? Not quite, but a lot of the live recordings from a certain phase of their operations. I do enjoy the tracks with the long Jim Jones rants, to be honest.

I used to have the raw rant on a tape somewhere, but I think that I lost it.

I like "The same man that gives you a traffic ticket is the one who knocks my brains out" or something like that.

Renegade Soundwave's Murder Music begins with the rant. At the end, where he says "I'll fight I'll" the second "I'll" starts echoing. A few years ago Mark Morgan from the band sightings was playing records at my party and he played an old noise 7", something like Black Randy or a band like that, and one side featured the speech with the same effect, so I assume RSW took it from that. Is that part of other samples?

PTV released a long sermon from the final white night as "The Last Supper" once

Dan: That "echo" on the second "I'll" is, I assume, him hollerin' and ululating, as it's on even the raw file...

(Thanks again, Brakhage.)

hmm, i'll have to listen again but I swear there's more then that, some delay, check the renegade soundwave song. It's a great song in any case.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 25 December 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

You're right. The original soundbite has some of the ululation, then when the volume spikes up that's all processing.
(Luckily, that RSW thread had come up in the last couple of days, so I had pulled my RSW and had it sitting next to the computer... Ithink I'm gonna listen to SPace Gladiator next...)
