yeah, pretty great. some unexpected albums in the top 20, with the usual blah from CYHSY and WP but as to be expected

merryxmas, Monday, 26 December 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

What other site was brave enough to put Sufjan at number one?!

if i had to look back a couple years from now to remember what the indie zeitgeist was all about in 2005, id probably check stereogum first. not that im totes craze about some of the choices but... i do think this represents a fairly accurate picture of what people were really listening to this year than say pitchforks or other music related places. im not trying to say that listmaking should always function this way, however. its just another way of assessing the year, thats all.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 26 December 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

but they are the same records that have appeared on every other list. i haven't heard most of the records and i am sick of them already. are they all on the lists because they are good or because listmakers copy from other lists? the uniformity is a bit disconcerting.

keith m (keithmcl), Monday, 26 December 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Because there weren't many good records this year.

cdwill, Monday, 26 December 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

yeah there are a lot of the usual suspects but some other ones that aren't around everywhere too but this is probably the wrong place to talk about them since everyone is so dour on things here

merryxmas, Monday, 26 December 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

Or, they just weren't that good.

cdwill, Monday, 26 December 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

you're annoying

merryxmas, Monday, 26 December 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

cdwill, Monday, 26 December 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

stereogum's blend of emaciated starletpix, vapid tales from the guestlist and banal 'tastemaking' really hits the 'why new york ca. 2005 totally bums me out' nail on the head.

nb of course i still read it

crabby old lady (maura), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

certainly one of the most vapid blogs out there..

af fuck you just used that word.. seriously, the VH1 Talk Soup of indie music PR gossip
