Profilic acts (1970 onwards)

We are speaking of a minimum of an album a year here, for a period of time, at least. Pre-1970 doesn't count because most major acts were way more profilic back then.

Anyway, starting off with Prince, Frank Zappa, Sufjan Stevens, Ramones and Modern Talking.

Through the early '90s, KISS.

The Jefferson Airplane/Starship maintained a pretty heady pace from '70 through the '80s, too.

Also George Strait, George Jones, and Dolly Parton.

Ahem hehe Geir are you using that spelling on purpose, or is it an honest mistake? I seem to remember the same error led to some spectacular geirbaiting on some thread a couple of years ago... ;)

An honest answer: Herbie Hancock. He's had a couple of longer breaks, but not counting those he's released an album or more a year ever since 1962.

two years pass...

The Flower Kings have released 10 albums since their 1995 debut, 4 of which were double. Virtually all of these albums are running for at least 60-70 minutes per CD. Probably makes them one of the most profilic acts of recent times.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Willie Nelson.

Where do R. Kelly and Lil Wayne fit in?

As for PJ, didn't take them much extra work. They just recorded every concert at their world tour in its intirety.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 4 January 2008 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

Think that's easy? Setting up your cassette machine at the back of the hall then dashing back to the stage? And breaking off after 45 mins to turn the tape over?

Once they got rolling, the Smiths were releasing a single or album about every two months.

bendy, Friday, 4 January 2008 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

Cecil Taylor has released 60 albums since 1970 (starting in 1973 -- he didn't put anything out between 1970-1972) and eleven since 1995.

I haven't dared to total up Anthony Braxton's output, but it is likely twice that of Taylor's. And pretty much everyone else's.
