Madness: "Madness"
They Might Be Giants: "They Might Be Giants"

Others? Having the artist's name as a part of a longer song title does not count.

I'll grant it's a pointless question, btw.

there's a punk band in my town named all dead. they are absolutely adorable, the lead singer introduces the band 'we're all dead and so are you'. they have like three songs titled 'all dead'.

There's a band here called Eat a Bag of Dicks and I'm told they have only one song, called "Eat a Bag of Dicks." It sounds to me like the greatest thing ever, but my informant says no. I don't believe her, though--this same woman once told me that the only hip hop she likes is the Roots 'cause "they play their own instruments." She's a nice person otherwise.

we missed an obvious one ... Prince, "My Name Is Prince"

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Saturday, 2 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely 'Creation' by Creation, on Creation beats all. 'Talk Talk' were named after the song, which was performed by Mark Hollis's original punk rock combo (forget the name- something suitably 'mod sounding) on the 'Streets' compilation circa 1977, rather than taking their name from the Music Machine's sixties psych-garage classic.

if we're going to start listing every band that's had a self-titled record we'll be here all day, now, won't we?

Having the artist's name as a part of a longer song title does not count.

Otherwise, Solex would rule this thread.

Curt, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not to mention Bo Diddley.

Curt, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

e.s.o. jim: if we're going to start listing every band that's had a self-titled record we'll be here all day, now, won't we?

Well, many of us seem to be here all day anyway, no?

But yes, only song titles count, not record titles in general.

OleM, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Belle & Sebastian. Not their best song.

Two Ton Boa.

It is interesting to me that John McLaughlin has the song named after him on Bitches Brew

Built to Spill.

On the long and justifiably forgotten CUT THE CRAP album by the Clash (the album the revisionists refuse to even acknowledge in every brief history of the band), Strummer penned a rather desperate tune called "We Are the Clash," which -- given the departure of Mick Jones and Topper Headon by that point -- rang a bit hollow.

Cop Shoot Cop had a tune dubbed "Triumphal Theme," the chorus of which was -- WAIT FOR IT --- "Cop Shoot Cop! Cop Shoot Cop!"

Nick Cave wrote a track in the Birthday Party called "The Bad Seed," didn't he?

Devo's "Jocko Homo" (featuring the classic query, "Are we Not Men? We Are Devo!")

Icicle Works (or was it Ice House?)

Dave225, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ron: it's because it's not really a song per se, but just McLaughlin's full solo section in the extended jam that makes up "Bitches Brew." Teo editited it out of the final cut, but it ended up as its own song because Miles liked it. Apparently, just titling it "John McLaughlin" seemed like the simplest route.

matthew m., Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave: It's Icehouse.
