BORING OR LIKEABLE POP?

Mike Hanle y, Saturday, 2 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a bit of both really. sometimes the melodies are lovely and the arrangements complement them well but other times they just try too hard to be perfect. the breathy french chanteuse thing is a bit od a cliche as well.

philT, Saturday, 2 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree. They are right on that line between. Operation Ivy, on the other hand, I lurv.

Has anyone heard _In the Clear_?

late adopter, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

They was in the New York Times on Sunday. What it says about the record:

"In the Clear" is an Ivy album par excellence: lush, layered pop that sounds at once classicist and totally contemporary. For the first time, the band wrote songs in the recording studio, and Mr. Chase and Mr. Schlesinger fought their perfectionist production impulses. "We wanted a record that was a little more visceral, with more of a live band sound," Mr. Chase says.

"hmmm... I wonder what happened to Ivy?" *finds website at http://www.thebandivy.com *

Hi everyone! 2009 has been a really busy year for all of us:

Right now IVY's currently hard at work recording our follow up album to In The Clear. I know we take forever between albums but believe me - another one is on it's way! Look for a release sometime in early 2010.

Hooray!

BTW, In The Clear is tremendously great. Promo description upthread OTM

Their debut, "Realistic" and the "Lately" EP.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Saturday, 10 February 2018 14:25 (seven years ago)

Long Distance is the last one I fell hard for, though the following discs each had highlights. Apartment Life is my favorite, then Realistic. Happy to have seen them supporting Lloyd Cole way back. Periodically check for word of a new disc, but it's been a while.

Same, never really got into FoW but Ivy soundtracked a good part of my 00's. RIP. Fuck this virus.

Never really listened to this band, even when AS passed, but somebody elsewhere posted something this morning and now they are really hitting the spot today.

I adore apartment life. “the best thing” is one of the very best songs of the 90s
