Delete This is a vanity article about someone that likes to post on messageboards. --Looper5920 01:40, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Keep I disagree with your definition of "vanity article" because the article could not have been written by Ms. Marchant, given her distinctive style. While there are varying perspectives about Ms Marchant's talent, she certainly has a following and has made a name for herself and is news-worthy, in her own way. Her offer of selling her CDs for thousands of dollars was reported in any number of sources. I think that she does indeed have a certain importance in the area of web music, as she has become an extremely wellknown figure in these circles. It is true that she does not completely fulfill the criteria for inclusion under the WP:MUSIC directives, but I have seen the "internet" and "Indie" aspects of this directive be brought into question in other discussions, so it would seem that this policy is evolving. There are other, much more frivilous articles about people who are lesser known. I think that this article should stay.Musikfabrik 16:39, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Off of the deleted Marissa Marchant page....

This page is important, and deserves to be in Wikipedia.

Marissa Marchant is a romantic. All her life, writing, dreaming and romancing men through her poems, music and long curly hair. Marissa dreams of horses, romantic candlelight evenings. She thinks men don't think she is anything because he is unsigned and selling cd's for 12 dollars. So one day she decided to let men known that she is worth something by selling cd for 1000's of dollars. She felt that alot of men rejected her in the past because she was not focused on money but music and romance. She thought that the 1000 dollar cd issue would gather much attention since she feels that men are impressed with numbers...not romantic women, poetry, song, and soft sensitive features.

I feel that in some, unexplainable way this thread embodies the vast cultural displacement and confusion accompanying the changes being brought about by the internet.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

"vast"

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

Well, you tell me, is she encyclopedia-worthy or not? And if so, what/who isn't?

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

I mean, to use what seems to have become a bit of a cliche around here, isn't she kind of a most-photographed-barn?

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Every one of God's creatures is worthy... now where do I vote?

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

I thought people were encouraged to maintain Wikipedia entries on themselves, so long as they were accurate...?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

So, should someone create a new, improved, Marissa entry?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

7. Unremarkable people or groups. An article about a real person, group of people, band or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to AFD instead.

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, is the problem that the entry was bad, or that she wasn't deserving of one?

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, her name is now Mariesa Sabriel.

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Both, I'd reckon.
I'm-easily-amused Keep I've spent a lot of time reverting vandalism from this article, it's in my permanent watchlist. It might not be the most high-minded of reasons, but I vote to keep this article just because I get such a laugh from the nature and content of the vandalism I remove. Whether it's from Marchant or not (much of the vandalism is rambling diatribes about how Marchant is an unappreciated musical genius - much of that is first-person, implying to be from Marchant herself), it can be damned entertaining while I'm RC Patrolling. --Krich (talk) 04:05, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
how do i add a comment on the wiki page?? is it just the "edit" function?

Pablo (Pablo A), Friday, 30 December 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

"I thought people were encouraged to maintain Wikipedia entries on themselves, so long as they were accurate...?"

Quite the opposite. Wikipedia has a "no autobiography" policy. It's a consequence of their policy of "no original research". You should only add things for which you can provide an alternative citation. If you write about yourself, you're often going to write things which haven't been published elsewhere, which is forbidden.

You shouldn't start a page on yourself. Although if someone else starts it about you you are allowed to edit it. OTOH, there's a strong feeling against that too among many people.

phil jones (interstar), Friday, 30 December 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

To add a comment, you hit the edit this page uptop. If you don't want to be taken as a "sock puppet", you should probably give some sort of explanation of who you are....

Dr. Spot, Friday, 30 December 2005 13:24 (twenty years ago)

Marissa's article was added by somebody else, but apparently she seems to enjoy going to edit it (you can read them by clicking on the history tab on the article page), for example:

Revision as of 01:41, 22 December 2005

I am going and have been writing truthful things about the falsehood and lies on Wikipedia as they try to destroy reputations of composers on the net. I have been writing articles about wikipedia and so have many other people. It is all over the net. Wikipedia is a fraud.

The music industry is a fraud. You are writing lies about untalented people on wikipedia and writing lies about talented people. You suck , dummies. You are a bunch of NO talent losers.

Sound familiar?

Dr. Spot, Friday, 30 December 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Here's another which contains an exciting new perspective:

Revision as of 23:26, 20 December 2005

There no such person named Marissa Marchant. Her new name is Sherrie.

And Marissa was never her real name. You people have nothing to do with your lives. You are losers.

SHERRIE???? Can it be true???

update:

Hello, I am very busy recording right now. I just did doubling to It's Sun, and the Avalon 747 makes it sound much better..I am struggling to do this music on a much higher level then before. Be patient.

StanM (StanM), Friday, 30 December 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

update 2:

I came up with a better name then Mariesa Sabriel. I may give it to you later, when I finish my recordings. I finally recorded the piano correctly with two mics. I could use some donations since I have to tune the piano every three months to record it..and I will give clips soon. I am working morning, noon and night on these Cds. I will not sell them for a set price. I will accept donations. The donors can give whatever they think art deserves. I made a new years resolution (2006). I am going on the Hunza diet and will put more info on this diet on my gig section and corkboard. I am not interested in anymore negativity, nor am I giving attention to people who don't have their priorities straight and who are rude and insensitive. I feel mostly euphoric. This diet is not so people can lose weight, but it is the most healthful diet..or one of them. This will help people and beautiful music feeds the soul.

The result of the debate was no consensus. While there are four legitimate delete votes, none of them really present any compelling arguments. There is only one legitimate keep vote, but User:Musikfabrik shows the article is properly referenced and NPOV. She may fail WP:MUSIC but apparently has enough notoriety from other activities that her article can be included. I'm following WP:DGFA: "When in doubt, don't delete."
