hm.

i remember a time there were ten threads on dancehall and five more on the bug / dj scud.

nobody picked this up? it got 8.4 on pitchfork.

Those were the days. I'd never even heard about this. Is it good? I'm vaguely excited about the prospect of the new-ish Bug record (which has been delayed a million times AFAICT). The last Wasteland record was good, but other than that has Scud been doing anything (oh wait there are a couple of 12"s with Panacea out aren't there? I should check slsk for them.)

a gun called tension = one of the worst things that i've heard in years. like, really bad.

=(

well, figures.

tell me more. i am still curious and don't have the energy to p2p. alternately suggest contemporary alternatives in the bad brains tradition.

the press has been mostly positive on these guys, too.

There are mp3s on the website. I might listen when I get home.

i don't remember it sounding ANYTHING like bad brains. i remember it being a really ill-advised hybrid of indie-rock and bad beats and horrible lyrics that made me cringe. you are better off with an old Dr. Israel album.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 29 December 2005 00:46 (twenty years ago)

Haha ouch. Okay maybe I won't.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 29 December 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

the new Dr. Israel album is really good too!

i am listening. it is fab. (to the bug that is)

when the fuck did www come out? i played that 7" to death at the time, and then left it at some club i was djing.

I think WWW came out in 2003 (maybe even earlier)? It was ages ago.

there's a redub of killer with vox by warrior queen that's insanely brilliant.

and 'boom boom clat' proves even the bug isn't above cutting assholish homophobic bullshit. :(

i am not a nugget (stevie), Thursday, 29 December 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

actually, i'm listening again to 'boom boom clat' and i'm not clear enough on the lyrics to be sure - its all pretty distorted, and parts really nonsensical, so i could be completely and assholishly wrong there.

its a good record tho. and there's a CD of versions coming with too.

you need to hear 'Killer Queen', yes.

Have you heard "Dem Bomb We" and "Money Honey"?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 29 December 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

money honey rings a bell - was it a 7"?

i am not a nugget (stevie), Friday, 30 December 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

I think it's a 12. It's on one of the Hyperdub labels. "Dem Bomb We" is a 7 though.
