been listening to all the parliament i haven't heard on spotify. 'funkentelechy' is the best imo for sure, motor-booty is ace too, but now i've got 'ahh.. the name is bootsy baby!" playing and it just hits the sweet spot. the grooves sound harder to me, the spacier tracks trip balls, then there's bootsy's vox of course.

so does bootsy play drums on "funkentelechy"? there's this drum style i've heard on a few of these tracks... clearly articulated and slow hi-hats, simple bass and snare pattern, very light touch but it swings SO nice; i could listen to that forever. it's on "jam fan" off this boot is made for fonk'n too and the version of "undisco kidd (the girl is bad)" that theo parrish edits. anyone know who this is?
ironically i haven't like been blown away by bootsy's bass playing! i mean, it's good but i don't really get what makes it so great. i just basically love the persona and general sound i think.

Bootsy was kind of a non-presence in Clinton's memoirs, I think there was a dismissive reference to him as an empty garden that George had to populate with fruitful concepts. Interesting to hear Bootsy's point of view.

(xp) Bootsy would be the first to admit that his solo career was George's idea and that he'd have been quite happy to have carried on just being the bass player in the band. There's a lot of great interviews with Bootsy on YouTube and he's a total mensch, very likeable guy and amazingly level-headed given the crazy scenes he's lived through.

It really struck me, I think it was on that Tales from the Tour Bus show, hearing Bootsy talk about his solo years and how he would get panic attacks and hives and all kinda stuff from having to go out and perform as a larger-than-life frontman.
