Stephen C (ihope), Saturday, 31 December 2005 18:05 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno about that Strokes album.

Erock Lazron, Saturday, 31 December 2005 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, it's so so. i also found the new cat power to be really boring sadly as that I really like her.

worst, Saturday, 31 December 2005 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

The Strokes album isn't great, but being that I've only heard 15-20 albums from 2006 it makes the cut.

Stephen C (ihope), Saturday, 31 December 2005 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

J Fischer (j fischer), Saturday, 31 December 2005 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

Excellent use of not inluding the Strokes on there, Fischer. I salute you !

Nobody's mentioned the new "Man Man" yet though. Surely it's better than the strokes is.

Erock LAzron, Saturday, 31 December 2005 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

The Islands, Cat Power and Nellie Nckay records are disappointing. Strokes, Elected, Ms John Soda, Liars and Mogwai are good.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Saturday, 31 December 2005 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

built to spill (but my leak has this guy saying "who's mike jones" 100 times in it.....)

shushu, Saturday, 31 December 2005 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

ya the "mike jones" Built to Spill leak is hilarious. The album sounds promising. Fischer's list is like a copy of mine in a slightly different order with marginally worse choices. Double Ugh.

Stephen C (ihope), Saturday, 31 December 2005 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

Where's the love for "Rabbit fur coat" from Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis?
It's a brilliant album!

Lorne, Saturday, 31 December 2005 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

I started a "Rabbit Fur Coat" thread a while back. I can't say I love the album, but its got some interesting songs.

Stephen C (ihope), Saturday, 31 December 2005 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

what is the built to spill called?

Freud Junior (Freud Junior), Saturday, 31 December 2005 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't heard the Pet Shop Boys or Travis ones yet, so too early to tell.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 31 December 2005 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

What the? I LOVE the Cat Power!!!

I'd say the Destroyer is my favorite, with Cat Power a close second. The Mogwai is growing on me fast.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Sunday, 1 January 2006 00:58 (nineteen years ago)

Not sure if new Built to Spill has an name yet. I think it does but I dont remember and the album is unlabeled. Basically theres some Built to Spill forum I guess and they leaked it to there, and from there it got out. New cat power is g-reat.

Stephen C (ihope), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

Also, the BtS is great. But like every minute the phrase "Who is Mike Jones?" is mixed in, which is funny but frustrating.

Stephen C (ihope), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned We Are Scientists, With Love and Squalor. It might not constitute as completely "new" because it's been released in the UK already, but it definitely hasn't been here.

Grace A, Sunday, 1 January 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Seriously, this is my favorite thread ever. Thank you ILM.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Sunday, 1 January 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

The, the Gossip record is a blast.

Graham Coxon - Love Travels at Illegal Speeds
Cat Power - The Greatest (I was originally pretty cold on this one, but I was rewarded after putting in some effort)
Psychic Ills - Dins
Band of Horses - Everything All the Time (the opposite of Cat Power... started out loving it, but it has diminishing returns)

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 1 January 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

er... Yeah, the Gossip record is a blast.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 1 January 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

Cousteau - Nova Scotia ('06 stateside release)
Matthew Shipp - One
Adrian Belew - Side Three
Prefuse 73 - Security Screening
Cold Cut - Sound Mirrors

It's a brilliant album!

YES IT IS.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 2 January 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

Susheela Raman, Music for Crocodiles (split between English and Indian vocals, poppier and sexier than ever before)
Patty Hurst Shifter, Too Crowded on the Losing End (like the dBs if Peter Holsapple listened to the Replacements)
Pepito, The New World (a bit weak so far, moving to Europe might not have been that great an idea for them)
Carrie, Honey Blue Star (Guadalajara singer songwriter, opening track is called "Ass-Fi," produced by Ruben Tamayo a.k.a. Fax, complicated techno-folk)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 2 January 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

Man Man is great. I have not seen the Quasi anywhere.

Stephen C (ihope), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 05:57 (nineteen years ago)
