both hugh jones projects from '81.

comparable, no?

i personally think that from the lion's mouth is clearly the better album, but i have a feeling most people are pretty balls deep into that echo and the bunnymen lp. i mean it's good, but...

adrian borland channeled something more realistic way better than ian mccullochs symbolist riffing. i supposed that's a fine argument, i don't know. feel free to post whatever damn ilxor reference you and your roommate have got

I was always a fan of Bunnymen singles, but never embraced any of the albums from their first run other than the self-titled from 1987 (the second run albums from 1997-present have all been rather nice, though).

From the Lion's Mouth wins this one, no contest.

From The Lions Mouth for me.

Johnny Fever OTM about EATBM making great singles, yet spotty records. I'm a Crocodiles fan, Ocean Rain is half great, yet Heaven Up Here and Porcupine were pretty turgid listens aside from the singles.

From The Lion's Mouth is a gem.

i agree with most everything said here. from the lion's mouth is powerful from beginning to end, crocodiles is probably echo's most solid album, heaven up here has some clunkers, echo was an amazing singles band, ocean rain and porcupine have some awesome album tracks on them, and i can't say anything about echo after ocean rain cuz the last thing i bought by them was the dancing horses 12 inch with the amazingly great original version of bedbugs on it and the just as great over your shoulder b-side. nostalgia-wise, never stop will always hit me harder than anything that the sound did, but i came to the sound party way way late in the game.

so: From The Lion's Mouth

I have a soft spot for del Amitri's first album re: Jones productions

i think both are really *good* but only one rules in my opinion. and i am really glad to see myself agreeing with seward for the first time! right on.

the only thing is this: how in the hell do you get into the solo adrian borland stuff? i mean it seems OK (albeit cheesy), but i've yet to really tap into any of those albums/songs. i don't get them i guess.

and second layer has always been a big disappointment, but a good one nonetheless

five months pass...
Listening to the crystalline remastered Heaven Up Here on my bitchin' headphones, I finally realized who we had to blame for Interpol.

four years pass...

Someone had recommended From the Lion's Mouth to me years ago and I listened the hell out of it, but had somehow forgotten about it until yesterday. When I looked at all the titles the melodies instantly came back to me. This is some of the best and most memorable songwriting of any post-punk album IMO.
