Dom you have fucked up the Last's search engine.

I bet I'm the only one who's listened to anything other than "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie" by Baccara though.

I Am Sexless and I Am Foul (noodle vague), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:09 (twenty years ago)

1,173 people have listened to Rock the Boat by Hues Corporation.
Of all 1,286 people that have listened to songs by Hues Corporation, this represents 91.2%.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:10 (twenty years ago)

91.2% is going to be a tough target to beat.

And yes this appears to have ruined last.fm's search function. I think we can be pleased we've achieved something today.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:11 (twenty years ago)

You'd be wrong, IASIAF:

273 people have listened to Sorry, I'm A Lady by Baccara.
Of all 2,901 people that have listened to songs by Baccara, this represents 9.4%.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:13 (twenty years ago)

Plus they've tagged the song as both "Yes Sir I Can Boogie" and "Yes Sir , I Can Boogie", splitting the vote. And combined they only add to 72.4% anyway!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:13 (twenty years ago)

Bugger.

I Am Sexless and I Am Foul (noodle vague), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:14 (twenty years ago)

Your statistics look questionable Geir!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:20 (twenty years ago)

How are youse still getting the search engine to work?

Also: Mr Blobby.

I Am Sexless and I Am Foul (noodle vague), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:22 (twenty years ago)

I calculated myself. The statics are here:
http://www.last.fm/musicpages/artist/index.php?id=1015067&mode=charts

There are a Zillion different versions of "Pump Up The Volume", but they are all "Pump Up The Volume". "Anitina" had 38 people listening to it overall.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:22 (twenty years ago)

When your search fails, last.fm lets you put the query into google straight away, it's just an extra click basically.

73 people have listened to Mr Blobby by Mr Blobby.
Of all 86 people that have listened to songs by Mr Blobby, this represents 84.9%.

But it also fails to mention that Blobby ever recorded another song, so I'm gonna play Mills Lane and not allow it.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:24 (twenty years ago)

x-post, obv.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:24 (twenty years ago)

This is why you cannot trust the statistics on last.fm:

Look at this from the other way around:

49,268 people have listened to Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.

Does anyone else find these numbers highly suspicious?

Mitya (mitya), Monday, 2 January 2006 01:51 (twenty years ago)

Not hardly. Those are, I believe, the most popular songs by those two bands, respectively.

R. J. Greene, Monday, 2 January 2006 01:58 (twenty years ago)

"Clocks" may be the most well-known Coldplay song in America, but in Europe it would probably be "Yellow" or "Speed Of Sound".

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 2 January 2006 02:00 (twenty years ago)

1,173 people have listened to Rock the Boat by Hues Corporation.
Of all 1,286 people that have listened to songs by Hues Corporation, this represents 91.2%.

This is troubling news. Someone must educate these masses about "Freedom for the Stallion"!

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 2 January 2006 02:21 (twenty years ago)

Bit surprised by the narrow representation of Dexy's Midnight Runners, considering they released three critically acclaimed albums and even had a UK #1 with "Geno".

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 2 January 2006 02:23 (twenty years ago)

117,812 people have listened to Piggy in the Mirror by The Cure.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 2 January 2006 02:39 (twenty years ago)

3,313 people have listened to I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany.
Of all 4,788 people that have listened to songs by Tiffany, this represents 69.2%.
(I'll add the mislabeled ones)ha! I got 79.2% for "I think We're Alone Now"

8,033 people have listened to Breakfast At Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something.
Of all 12,287 people that have listened to songs by Deep Blue Something, this represents 65.4%.

Tape Store (Tape Store), Monday, 2 January 2006 02:57 (twenty years ago)

Of all 4,788 people that have listened to songs by Tiffany, this represents 69.2%.

Those who have any taste whatsoever still prefer the way superiour "Could've Been" though.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 2 January 2006 03:00 (twenty years ago)

1,006 people have listened to George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People by The Legendary K.O.

R. J. Greene, Monday, 2 January 2006 03:36 (twenty years ago)

8,033 people have listened to Breakfast At Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something. Then they shot themselves in the face.

I Am Sexless and I Am Foul (noodle vague), Monday, 2 January 2006 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Not hardly. Those are, I believe, the most popular songs by those two bands, respectively.

My point exactly. Two-thirds of people who listen to Nirvana and Coldplay have NOT heard "Teen Spirit" or "Clocks" (or "Speed of Sound")?

Mitya (mitya), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 01:24 (twenty years ago)

Don't analyze those percentages too much...it's all very random. Depending on what they just downloaded/what just came on the radio/what was on the mix CD they got/etc. I just listened to Buttered Popcorn and Who's Lovin' You by the Supremes on my comp, but I've never listened to Baby Love or Stoned Love. But what I listen to on my CD player/mp3 player is a completely different story though.

musically (musically), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 02:01 (twenty years ago)

four weeks pass...
9,051 people have listened to Pon De Replay by Rihanna.
Of all 11,948 people that have listened to songs by Rihanna, this represents 75.8%.

...although her new song that samples Tainted Love kicks all kinds of ass.
