has anybody heard this new compilation???

vahid (vahid), Monday, 2 January 2006 04:56 (nineteen years ago)

ok the track is bruno pronsato - "open your eyes" (php14)

vahid (vahid), Monday, 2 January 2006 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

there's a great jackmate remix of a bruno pronsato track on the wuorinen live in cascadia ep. really sleazy and tricked out deep microhouse. reminds of spacier version of the ark. not surprised you like this stuff at all. rudeness!

tricky (disco stu), Monday, 2 January 2006 06:01 (nineteen years ago)

omg this must be the most deep house sounding microhouse ever!! (nb i havent heard any of it yet. bruno pronsato has a new mix up at his site though!)

Yawn (Wintermute), Monday, 2 January 2006 06:06 (nineteen years ago)

it truly is.

philpot = larry levan's real name (laurence philpot)

vahid (vahid), Friday, 3 February 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

the Soulphiction debut album "State of Euphoria" is coming out february 28th!

Yawn (Wintermute), Friday, 3 February 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

doesn't anybody realize how perfect PHILPOT is?!?

vahid (vahid), Friday, 3 February 2006 23:06 (nineteen years ago)

no shit, i didn't know that about the larry levan reference.

vahid, i fucking love this label. you should have seen soulphiction's live performance at mutek last year, one of the deepest, darkest things i've EVER seen. i think i'm about the only person in the crowd who felt that way (and even jackmate, whose real name escapes me at the moment, didn't seem to love the set), but i had fucking chills up and down my spine. freaky.

the newer records seem to be going even further out there, rhythmically.... on a weird mixture between moodymann and smith'n'hack, or something.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Saturday, 4 February 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

oh please. it's a bunch of microhouse with west coast breaks, don't be fooled : D

blunt (blunt), Saturday, 4 February 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

I wanted to believe what you guys said but after half a dozen tracks downloaded... Some of it would be perfect for Classic though, I see the (ILM-debated) point.

blunt (blunt), Saturday, 4 February 2006 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

I wanted to believe what you guys said but after half a dozen tracks downloaded...

oh come on - FINISH YR SENTENCES PLS

"what you guys said" = i'm not sure what anybody said except "we're really feeling this"

"but after half a dozen tracks downloaded..." = but what?

did you check out the motorsoul compilation i linked? i honestly don't think this sounds like ANY west coast house, really. it's more like a fusion of theo parrish and UK detroit techno leavened with some perlon-oriented rhythmic ideas.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 4 February 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

i can understand if you don't really like theo parrish or whatever ... but did you check out the free-for-download manmadescience EP? are you honestly not feeling "ideas of momentum" or "african chants"???

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 4 February 2006 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, those are vastly different from the Pronsato stuff, including Jackmate remixes. I did collect Parrish & related & eventually poor imitations, by now this stuff is a little derivative. Also it's a liiiittle on the sample-gimmicky side.

I used to like the older Soulphiction, Euro-stiff or techy disco meets deep house stuff on Dessous.

blunt (blunt), Saturday, 4 February 2006 22:01 (nineteen years ago)

I was just making an aggravating comment with the west coast thing. Let's say "breakbeats and micro-breaks". Where does it go seriously cut-up a la Smith'n'Hack ?

blunt (blunt), Saturday, 4 February 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

Neustadt 36 sound interesting on that comp. Will look for the entire track and his "Euronion / Ben & Jerry" release of last year. Anybody have those ?

blunt (blunt), Saturday, 4 February 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

the soulphiction on perlon was so good that i've followed him ever since and sadly been slightly disappointed. why try to be theo when theo does theo so well?

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 5 February 2006 06:18 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
the last track on the Soulphiction album is a cover of the theme from Taxi!

Yawn (Wintermute), Friday, 3 March 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

bob james, right?

vahid (vahid), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:01 (nineteen years ago)

christmas vacation mini-phase: lots of soulphiction + carl craig + blue break beats albums back-to-back

vahid (vahid), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

kirk d too

vahid (vahid), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

The Motorsoul comp is great, I really like these guys and the label.

Uh, I did, too, fwiw. Bruno Pronsato's set may have been even better, though.

Um, can someone do a S/D here? Or maybe just a recommended starting point if there isn't very much to Destroy. I have no clue where to begin. I see Soulphiction have a new full-length out on Sonar Kollektiv. Anybody heard it?

matt2 (matt2), Thursday, 6 April 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

begin w/ the free EP i posted above. then move on to everything else.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 6 April 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

That makes it easy.

matt2 (matt2), Thursday, 6 April 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

The most recent manmade science has a lot of great rhythmic weirdness going on.

Dave are you going to Mutek this year?

Haven't listened to much of this Soulphiction album yet but the intro track samples Kate Bush "Waking The Witch"!

the manmade science album strikes me as a bit undercooked.
