what is the name of this song by GREEN ON RED where dude uses a whammy arm remarkably like kevin shields?

could use the answer to this for fact-checking purposes, if anyone knows.

Shields doesn’t seem to feel proprietary ownership over his bent guitar schtick, and is eager to talk of searching for other examples that predate his own use of it. He considers a key element of the method to be “the mentality of bending as a hook line,” which is so well put it makes me want to print it twice, “the mentality of bending as a hook line.” Shields credits dance music as an influence here, with its elastic melody lines driven by bend-y pitch wheels. As to Green On Red’s own warped guitar song, Shields says that “if you hear it you’re gonna go, ‘Fucking hell!’ You are going to think that we would have heard that. And we could have, subconsciously. The whole rest of [Green On Red’s] repertoire is nothing like that. But this one track had this kind of melody going over the top to the tune of the song, and he started messing with the tremolo arm. He probably only did it through one tenth of the song properly, but he explored it within that song.” Shields opines that it’s “a wonderful example of how if the universe is one entity, and it tries ideas out—and goes ‘This is a really cool idea, but this person isn’t the right person to be doing it because they’ve got other things to be doing.’”

maybe the opener of "gas food lodging". it's called "that's what dreams were made for". there's an overtone tune hovering above everything else from the beginning on. i always assumed it was a keyboard though. at the end that melody line is played by a keyboard for sure. cool song anyways. with an introduction by jeffrey lee pierce.

seriously, though, I'm interested too!--but sounds to me like something off "Gravity Talks", their previous one--I at one point owned everything they recorded before 1990--down to a warped cassette of GFL by now....

i came across this thread by accident. i just bought mike's loveless book from the 33 1/3 series - which is excellent btw - and googled for green on red and tremolo to find out which song it could be. the only two green on red albums i have are the early ones gfl and gor, so i started relistening.

Chuck Prophet just had a telecaster nicked from his car btw. Not directly relevant since a tele don't have a whammy bar, but thought people ought to know.
& he was the gtrist for the later line-up of the band.

i think i found it, it's got to be "apartment 6", the last song from the green on red ep from 1982. there is guitar noise through the whole song and at the end there is some kind of feedback which sounds a little bit like tape flutter slightly remniscent to the warped guitar textures on loveless. it is on spotify: http://open.spotify.com/track/1bG9XucLpz5bVm2ebQZp16
