My vote goes to Jack-Daniels-shaped-bass-player, Michael Anthony. He has remained friends with Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, and Sammy Hagar. Even at their bitterest, all three of these warring parties have remained close to their bass playing buddy. That makes him the nicest guy in rock.

Robyn Hitchcock seems nice, if your into raving lunatics! .

he does seem nice. i did a phoner with him once, and he had a fever and some terrible intestinal flu and apologized at the start if he had to run off to vomit, but went on gamely and gave a good interview with lots of hitchcockian one-liners. then at the show a week or two later, there were only about 40 people there, but he was completely friendly and garroulous and didn't seem to mind being in a small room with a small crowd.

I don't like their music much, but The Smithereens's Pat DiNizio was remarkably friendly and easygoing when my cousin (big fan) and myself approached him after a '95 Royal Oak, MI concert. A class act!

(Incidentally, the opening act that night was a band that called themselves Sixpence, and they ROCKED! with lotsa furious downstroking from the chick guitarist with the Gibson SG. And then, right on cue, they added "-None The Richer" to their name and naturally commenced to suck. Yep, that was them.)

Some punks I knew ran into Joe Strummer in a bar in NYC, when he was singing for the Pogues. They had a couple of drinks together and on his way out left $50 for the bartender, giving his snaggletoothed grin and saying "I did that 'cause I got class." Seems like he was pretty down-to-earth, at least at that point in his career.
