The record store.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 09:32 (nineteen years ago)

soulseek does fine for me, i can find anything as obscure as i'd like

rizzx, Wednesday, 4 January 2006 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

record stores are for rich kids with no jobs.

I WORK FOR A LIVING, KID.

right on rizzx. i find some stuff. chris lucey is on there. but really weird guilty pleasures like rare menswear b-sides are impossible.

corey c (shock of daylight), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

i have a lot, i really do mean a lot of rare b-side by british bands but not menswear, but mansun I have just about everything...

BitTorrent. http://www.indietorrents.com/ You'll need an invite though.

manur, Wednesday, 4 January 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

i refuse to believe bittorrent is better than soulseek.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

at least in terms of selection.

Other than record stores, I would say DC++ is a pretty good source.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

Bit Torrent is not better than Soulseek, but Direct Connect is.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

but again you have the problem of everyone having to belong to a single server/hub, right? seems like it'd be sort of hit or miss as to whether anyone had the music you were looking for.

How long before this thread becomes a honeypot for googlers looking for 1nd1et0rr3nt 1nv1t35?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

I thought record stores were also for mid-20s d00ds with "real jobs" who have no kids and too much disposable income. Could just be me, though.

Poor unemployed souls...who will weep for thee?

Ebay

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

I thought record stores were for people who care enough about music to actually toss an hour's pay to the artists who're responsible for it every now and then?

Hatch (Hatch), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

There's certainly any number of things that are hardly obscure that I can't find on Soulseek.

Record stores, OTM

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

And you really do want those rare menswe@r b-sides too.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

I refuse to believe Soulseek has a better selection than any half-decent BitTorrent tracker -- assuming you're willing to post a request in some site's forums. I also refuse to believe there'll ever be a decent, fully-functional Soulseek client for OS X, which isn't helping my love for Soulseek.

Josh Witkowski (braineater), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

I find more treasures on Soulseek than any client to date, including Audio Galaxy. The obscure of the obscure has a habit of cropping up in Soulseek.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

What complaints do you have about ssX? The absence of a wishlist function is the only thing that bothers me.
