Gotta change my answering machineNow that I'm aloneCuz right now it says that weCan't come to the phoneAnd I know it makes no senseCuz you walked out the doorBut it's the only way I hear your voice anymore [holy shit!]
Plus the beat's great, some real interesting polyrhythmic tam tam thing with a nice guitar ostinato, Ne-Yo's voice is very good and Michael Jacksonish, the melody's real pretty, and the whole thing is efficient: verse, verse, refrain, verse, refrain, refrain where he sings melodic variations and whatnot (I think), out. We need more efficient beautiful songs!
Anybody know anything else about Ne-Yo or heard the album? Allmusic just says 2006 Def Jam.

I liked this a LOT when it came out, but it's starting to grate on me (thanx to constant rotation) - that beat sounds rinky-dink after the 50th time. Reminds me of "We Belong Together" (albeit w/out any shoutouts).
I like "Let Me Love You" a lot more.

Please tell us it wasn't a She Wants Revenge song, Dan.

"let go" off of this album has such a sublime chorus
― dyao, Thursday, 20 May 2010 15:12 (fifteen years ago)
"so sick" is so good. the best thing about it is the faint sound of police sirens in the backing track that you can just barely hear; it makes me feel so lonely and :'(
"let me love you" is also brilliant.

Prefer "Sexy Love" and "Let Me Love You," actually, but this is good.

ne-yo is the artist that kinda gradually coaxed me back into liking pop music in 2006, thx ne-yo
― teledyldonix, Friday, 21 May 2010 00:16 (fifteen years ago)
I like it. I still think Ne-Yo sounds a little too much like Ginuwine, though.

alfred do you mean "let me get this right"?
― Face Book (dyao), Friday, 21 May 2010 01:09 (fifteen years ago)
well at that point Ne-Yo's only other song was "Stay With Me" -- i guess there's some bits in the verses that are a little Ginuwine-esque, but still funny to think I was apparently hung up on the comparison

No -- Mario's "Let Me Love You"

― jonathan blapelbon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 21 May 2010 01:38 (fifteen years ago)
his solo album is supposed to be coming out sometime soon, pretty psyched
― some dude, Friday, 21 May 2010 01:50 (fifteen years ago)

Ha, I just remembered when I used to hear this on the radio, they played a version where Ne-Yo sang "Why can't I turn off [name of radio station]?" I liked imagining him in the studio, like, "All right, what's the next one? Kiss 92?"
― jaymc, Friday, 21 May 2010 13:58 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i think he did do a bunch of personalized versions. the things a new artist has to do to get spins.
