A call to arms

It would appear that these guys could use a little input. Just seeing the name "Marillion" made me suppress a chuckle. Also, can anyone educate me on Savatage?? Apparently, they rule.

Savatage's rock opera is rated #1 in their list of Top Ten Greatest Albums of All Time--- higher than "Pet Sounds" (#3)! Fuck! 'Savatage' must have been the greatest band of all time!

I just looked them up on Allmusicguide.com. "The band showed a flair for intense, melodic hard rock, dramatic balladry, and elaborate, operatic concepts.." ie dud.

That is an extraordinary list - presumably the ABBA list got in first, and then someone pointed the Savatage Fan Club at it. Full of hilariously rubbish records, which must embarrass the people who want to claim it's the most accurate. Pulp, Eminem, Jerry Lee Lewis, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Underworld, James Brown, Al Green haven't had a vote yet. Massive Attack secure the all-important number 1202 spot with Mezzanine - no votes for Blue Lines at all. The Velvets get as high as number 179 with ...And Nico (their only entry). DJ Shadow's Endtroducing is #323. 5 Stones albums, the highest Exile at #183. Never Mind The Bollocks is #631, just ahead of Miles Davis's highest, "A" Kind Of Blue, at 636. There don't seem to be any black acts in the top 100. Dismal stuff indeed.

*gasps in amazement and horror*

I wonder if the people voting for Dream Theater were the same ones who sabotaged the "Bands Named After Places" thread?

FRIDA RULES MAN THIS LIST IS THE BEST LIST EVER

Sean Carruthers, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No votes at all for the Velvet Underground(except mine). What madness is this?

How did Brabra Streisand get so high up the list?

I like the incongriguity of the Beautiful South suddenly turning amongst all those RAWK! albums. One of the few occasions I've been glad to see them.

Phil A, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They are flagrantly dishonoring the fire!

Big best-of list fails to regurgitate the dreary usual suspects shock horror!! Everything Savatage recorded is better than Kind of Blue. I have never heard any of it.

We need more votes for Jandek! He's only 419th

"There was no match for MY BLOODY VALENTINE"

Ned hasn't voted yet, then?

"No votes at all for the Velvet Underground(except mine)"

Oh hang on, yes there is. I put "The" in front of "Velvet" and the crappy software didn't recognise the name. Grr.

Phil A, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What album should or could ILM vote for en masse?

brian.ia, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned hasn't voted yet, then?

My holy presence rises above and beyond such a list. Or something.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

658 people have voted! Wow!

The Great Lord Custos has manifested and made his Holy Edict known, but so far, has been drowned out by heretics and infidels. I suspect its time for another dozen or so plagues to weed out the ninnies.

SO IT IS WRITTEN, SO SHALL IT BE DONE!

four months pass...
Things have totally changed on the list since last we investigated. Here's the latest update:

Hi folks! Well there has certainly been a frantic battle between the CKY and Linkin Park fanbases' over the last couple of weeks. However the Linkin Park album "Reanimation" had to be removed from the system because it isn't offically released until July 30th. Please note that all other invalid voters have been removed. Please respect the integrity of this poll.

I just liked the "integrity" bit. Also apparently Rush have 21 different albums on the list--make of that what you will.

In the voting rules on the site:

Rule:The album MUST have been performed all the way through by the same artist/band/composer

the only appropriate word for the author of such a rule is "genius"

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Thursday, 31 October 2002 03:00 (twenty-three years ago)

top 3 albums: Jandek, Mountain Goats, Foo Fighters' first LP

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 31 October 2002 03:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I see that numbers 1 and 2 at present reflect much of my mindset.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 31 October 2002 03:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Despite my slight misunderstanding, those three seem to belong together for some reason.
