Anyone else pick up this snazzy reissue?

Brian MacDonald, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not yet. Does it have any Peter Laughner contributions?

helenfordsdale, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

this isn't a reissue of "life stinks," is it? i was under the impression this was "new" live material.

your null fame, Sunday, 3 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I did. It overlaps Life Stinks by about eight songs, but the rest I haven't encountered before. Good liner notes, too.

Douglas, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I gave it a listen, and my jaw exploded. This is pretty much the holy grail of damaged garage rock if there ever was one. Can't think of too much else from 1975 that had a similar power to burn your skin right off.

Brian MacDonald, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why Brian, why are you so ignorant of the power of mid-seventies Dan Fogelberg?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

this is the guff from ubu projex :

The cd is 74 minutes long. The material is drawn only from original sources. We have the Loft tapes recorded Feb 18 1975 (not the WMMS broadcast or the compiled tape that was broadcast but the original master tapes). Also included is a never-before released studio 2- track recording of the May 5 1975 Agora concert and a never-before released 2-track recording of the July 24th Piccadilly Inn concert. We had access to everything that exists. This is the best of it. At some future point, if there is demand, we will release the out-takes from the Loft session and all the other versions not chosen for this release.

Bootleggers, aware that this package is imminent, have begun to make all sorts of claims of rarer material that features in their products. Caveat Emptor. Identical concert performances have been claimed as 3 separate events but differentiated only by increasingly poorer sound quality of the copy used.

weird, yeah.

I loved that Redux thing from a few years back.

CharlieS, Monday, 25 July 2011 16:49 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, that was good, though there was a WFMU performance that smoked it.

in related news, richard lloyd's facebook is crazy: http://www.facebook.com/richard.lloyd

tylerw, Monday, 25 July 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

They've played plenty of shows in this line-up in the past few years, with Richard Lloyd. So recording an album's no huge surprise, is it?

Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Monday, 25 July 2011 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

i think they've always said there was a new album in the works -- they played a new song or two when i saw them in 2003! but just weird in general that rocket from the tombs has a new album coming out.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

Has anyone heard this?

Elderflower Gimcrax Flores (admrl), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

(to clarify for Chap)
Rocket from the Tombs formed in Cleveland in the mid 70s, they split up and one faction formed Pere Ubu, the other formed the Dead Boys.
Peter Laughner was the lead guitarist, blah blah blah

Have not heard it

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

i've heard the seven inch single (which is included on the album). it's ok.

tylerw, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:33 (fourteen years ago)

Still wearing my red RFTT tshirt regularly after getting it sometime around '04. Been asked if it was advertising Mcdonalds though.

The Day the Earth met is a great cd, wish there was more.

Also wish there was Pere Ubu video before Urrgh a Music War. Or is there any?

Stevolende, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 21:18 (fourteen years ago)

there's another RFTT show from 1975 floating around, at the agora theater I think? Not as good as the stuff on the official Day The Earth disc.
Never seen any video of the band prior to Urrgh, which, yeah, is a shame.

tylerw, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

five months pass...

huh, guess you can get this now!
